Middleton Update Middleton Elementary | December 8, 2023

Middleton Families,

This week was a ton of fun! Our Choir, the Middleton Music Makers, performed for the first time this year and it was such a treat! These 4th and 5th graders have been practicing weekly and their hard work defintiely paid off. They made Middleton proud! A big thank you to all of the families that attended the concert.

With appreciation,

Mili

December’s character trait is compassion! Compassion is a feeling of sharing in another person’s hardship. When we see someone struggling and choose to help them we are demonstrating compassion. You can show compassion by others by asking them how they're doing or offering support. The success of this year's Toy Drive is just one example of how our Middleton students have shown compassion. As a result, over 100 kids will receive new gifts this holiday season. Let's keep showing compassion through the holidays and into the new year.

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school, and is important for academic success and social well-being - even for our youngest learners! During the winter months our district often sees increases in student absences across grade levels -- particularly after longer breaks such as our upcoming Winter Break.

To help your student be successful at school, it’s important to have a good routine at home that leads to regular attendance. When getting ready to come back to school after the Winter Break, here are some tips that can help re-establish your “time for school” routine:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine

  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks/lunches the night before.

  • Develop a backup plan for getting to school in the event of a transportation issue.

  • Try to schedule non-emergency medical appointments or extended trips for days when school isn’t in session, or during after school hours.

  • If your child seems anxious about coming to school, talk with your child’s teacher to partner on helping your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.

  • If you have additional challenges or concerns that prevent regular attendance, please contact our school office so we can assist you in connecting to resources that will support good school attendance.

In addition, we want to support families in being more aware of their child’s attendance. Beginning next week, families of students with declining attendance will begin receiving updates via email letters or by phone. The goal with these notifications is to ensure all parents/guardians are provided with timely information as our partners in improving school attendance.

We hope our students and families enjoy the upcoming Winter Break, and we look forward to welcoming all of our students back to school on Wednesday, January 3.
