TSIA- What is it?

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) is a state-approved assessment test to determine college-readiness in reading, writing, and math.


The TSIA2 version became effective on January 11, 2021.

What is TSIA used for?

Dual Credit

May be required prior to taking high school dual credit courses.


  • For College English you must pass ELAR portion
  • For College Math you must pass Math portion

College, Career, and Military Ready (CCMR)

Lampasas strives to have all of their students College, Career, or Military Ready (CCMR) by the time they complete high school. The TSIA is one way to meet this requirement.

College Entrance Requirement

If you are a college bound student, then your college/university may require you to pass the TSIA before they will allow you to register for your freshman courses. Please do not wait until the last minute to complete this requirement!


**You could be TSI exempt if you have high enough ACT/SAT scores- see below!

ACT exemption

Must have composite score of 23 or higher with at least a 19 on English section and a 19 on Math section.

SAT exemption

Minimum score of 530 on the math section and a minimum score of 480 on the Evidence-based Reading and Writing (EBRW) section.

College Prep Course

Some colleges will take successful completion of a college preparatory course. Please check with your college to make sure this is an option for you.

If you are TSI exempt, please make sure that a copy of your ACT/SAT scores go to your college and are on file with Mrs. Weinheimer at LHS.

Ready to register for the TSIA?

If you are not exempt, then you may register to take the test at the LHS TSIA Website. Please use an email address that you monitor, because all information will be sent through the email address that you use to register. Please look for information approximately one week before the test.


  • Lampasas ISD will pay for the TSIA up until October after graduation.
  • You can test at CTC or LHEC for a fee, but please send us your score report for documentation purposes.
  • We highly discourage taking all both sections at one time. You may register to take ELAR one month and then math the next month.

What to know BEFORE you test...

  1. All students must complete the pre-assessment activity prior to taking the TSIA. However, it only has to be done one time so you do not have to repeat it if you take an additional section or retake a section of the test. To complete the pre-assessment activity, create an account at: https://practice.accuplacer.org/login
  2. STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! Remember that this test is to make sure you are ready for college-level course work. Some study options are available on the LHS TSIA Website

What to know AFTER your test...

Passing standards:


  • ELAR is 945 or higher with a 5+ on essay OR a diagnostic score of 5 or higher with a 5+ on essay
  • Math is 950 OR a diagnostic score of 6


ACT, SAT, and TSI scores do not go on your high school transcript. The student is responsible for reporting these scores to the college/university of their choice. Find more info here: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/accuplacer/pdf/how-access-test-scores-from-student-portal.pdf


Individual sections of the TSI may be retaken, but you will need to register again for an upcoming test date. Students that do not pass a section may be asked to take a developmental course at their college/university before they may begin college-level curriculum in that area.
