Weekly Update March 3, 2023
Head Cheetah's Message
Families,
This week was all about READING! We celebrated Read Across America Week with an assortment of spirited activities. In addition to daily themes, we welcomed many community guests to visit our classrooms for read-alouds, enjoyed a whole-school read-aloud with Mrs. Bauer and Mrs. Montovani, and had a door decorating contest in honor of our favorite titles.
We also took a moment on Friday morning to honor our school volunteers. Memorial is lucky to have wonderful community partners who give their time and energy on a consistent basis to help make our school community the wonderful place that it is! Thank you to our volunteers for all you do!
We look forward to seeing all of you during parent teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday! We’re so proud of all that our students have accomplished. There’s so much to celebrate!
See you soon!

Nurses Notes
Dear parents/guardians,
Please bring in a change of clothes as well as socks and shoes for your child to keep at school. Also, snowpants and snowboots are needed in order for them to play out in the snow. The nurse's office has very limited supply of spare clothing to donate. We would also appreciate any gently used donations of boys size 8 and up sweatpants/joggers and girls size 8 and up leggings.
Thank you for your assistance.

East Hampton Schools Offer Preschool Programs
The East Hampton Public School System is seeking three and four year old residents interested in preschool programs for the 2023-2024 school year. We are excited to offer two preschool programs this year, the Integrated preschool half day program and full day Smart Start program.
Memorial Elementary School’s preschool Integration Program will be held three times a week for three year old students and four times a week for four year old students. Due to limited spaces, selection for peer models will be determined through a lottery process. If selected, peer models demonstrating age appropriate skills will be assigned by age to either a three day or four day a week schedule (2.5 hours per day). Children must be potty trained and turn 3 prior to September 1, 2023 to be eligible.
Memorial Elementary School’s Smart Start Program will be held 5 full days per week (8:50am-2:50pm), following the East Hampton Public School calendar. Priority will be given to 4 year old children that meet income guidelines or have other factors for consideration. Other applicants, regardless of economic or risk factors will then be selected.
Parents interested in proceeding through the selection process must pick up an application/information packet at either Memorial Elementary School or the East Hampton Public Library. The completed Parent Interview Form, Immunization Form and a Proof of Residency must be returned to Jodi Blyler at Memorial School office no later than March 17, 2023. Once all three forms are returned, parents will be contacted, no later than March 24th, to schedule a time to bring their child for the screening and lottery/selection process.

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
