La Mesa and Hart District Teacher of the Year Shelley Turski, a science teacher and department chair, has been chosen as one of the 16 LA County Teachers of the Year. The announcement was made Friday afternoon at the 40th Annual LACOE Teacher of the Year luncheon held at Universal City.

Mrs. Turski was chosen from a group of 56 fellow district teachers of the year, representing a pool of approximately 72,000 teachers in the county. Mrs. Turski marks three years in a row a Hart District teacher has been chosen as one of LA County's finest.

We really appreciate the donations received for our HOWL Store. It is so fun to see students picking up items they have earned.

If you can support our program please consider choosing items off of our Amazon Wish List. We also need gift cards in smaller denominations to local places such as Star Bucks, McDonalds, Menchies, Chipotle, etc. If you have larger items, we love those too as we raffle them off.

La Mesa receives a significant amount of federal money under Title 1. This funding is based on the number of students that qualify for free and reduced lunch in the federal lunch program. Because lunch is free for all this year, less people have filled out the application. This can put this extra funding for our school at risk.

Some of the VITAL things we fund:

An additional counselor

Professional development to increase reading and math skills

School supplies and classroom supplies

Programs and apps to make learning more engaging

Supports such as the 5 Star Student App to recognize and motivate students
