Information for Parents
Back to School Night Links: For those of you who were unable to login to the Back to School Night presentations, we will be providing the links to the recorded meetings in next week’s Weekly Update. Answers to the Frequently Asked Questions will also be provided shortly. Thank you for your patience.
Student Masks: Please remind your student to bring his or her mask to school. We have a large number of students coming to school without masks on a daily basis.
Restroom Vandalism: We have recently had vandalism occurring in several of our SMS restrooms throughout this week as a result of a challenge circulating Tik Tok. Students are ripping soap dispensers and paper towels dispensers off of the wall and in some cases, taking them with them. We encourage families to have conversations with their student(s) about responsible restroom use.
Student / Parent Handbooks: The Sherwood School District Handbook and
Sherwood Middle School Addendum are available online. The handbook and addendum contain important information for students and parents about district and school policies, practices, and rules. Student/parent acknowledgement forms will no longer be sent home.
ParentVue & StudentVue: If you are a parent of a new student or an incoming 6th grader and would like to set-up your ParentVUE, please call Stacy Holloway at 503-825-5512 for your activation key.
Video Folder for students/families - Please click here. SMS teachers have created tutorial videos for students and families for our frequently used tech. tools, including Synergy, Canvas, and Zoom. Please also know that teachers spend time in the first weeks of school helping students become familiar with these tools.
Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up: When dropping off or picking up your students at school, please consider our SMS neighbors. We have received calls regarding parents dropping their students off in adjoining neighborhoods, making U-turns, as well as blocking driveways and intersections. This has prevented families from being able to leave their neighborhoods for their own family needs. Please do not use the surrounding neighborhoods for drop or pickup of your student(s). We have also had reports of parents dropping students off on Meinecke Road which not only blocks traffic for the surrounding community but is unsafe for students. Students should only be dropped or picked up at their assigned entries on school property.
Lost & Found: Please have your students check the Lost & Found area in the cafeteria/commons for lost articles. Items of value and electronic devices are kept in the office for safety.
Smart Snacks: Currently, Nutrition Services is focusing on serving all of our meals at no cost to all students.
Mid January, Nutrition Services plan is to offer students and staff the opportunity to purchase a variety of Smart Snack Compliant items based on availability. Additionally, we will offer staff the opportunity to purchase meals.
