Now that the AP Biology exam is complete, Mrs. Peterson's class spent the day de-stressing by pulling weeds and cleaning up the gardens at the elementary school. Thank you Larisa, Andrew, Eisele, Maddie, Penny, and Emily - the gardens look great!

Gananda Drama Club Recognition!

Rochester Broadway Theatre League's 24th annual Stars of Tomorrow Recognition Ceremony took place on Thursday, May 5, recognizing student achievement in performing arts in 26 schools from the greater Rochester area.

Gananda's production of the musical Damn Yankees received the following recognitions from the Stars of Tomorrow adjudicators:

  • Excellence in Dance Ensemble
  • Excellence in Acting Ensemble
  • Gabrielle Brice as "Mr. Applegate" - a 'Tip of the Hat' for an Outstanding Performance
  • Nathan Clarcq as "Joe Hardy" - a 'Tip of the Hat' for an Outstanding Performance
  • Olivia Davis as "Lola" - a 'Tip of the Hat' for an Outstanding Performance
  • The adjudicators selected Gabrielle Brice's performance of "Those Were the Good Old Days" as our production's "Most Distinguished Scene."

The following students received "Round of Applause" recognitions for Outstanding Performances from their director:

  • Lyndsey Burns as "Who's Got the Pain Dancer"
  • Reese Davis as "Rocky"
  • Molly Tichacek as "Gloria Thorpe"

The following students received Special Recognition from their director for going above and beyond in the production of their show:

Caroline Donegan - "As a student scenic artist, Caroline's leadership, skill, vision, problem-solving, and execution is exemplary. We are extremely grateful to have had a wonderful team of student artists working on Damn Yankees, but Caroline's contributions deserve this extra special level of recognition. Thank you, Caroline! We are so proud of you."

Lillian Freeman - "As stage manager, Lillian called the most technically complex show we have done in, at least, the past four years. Lillian worked hard to continue improving the timing of cues throughout the show, from dress rehearsals through performances, resulting in an ultimately well-oiled machine. Thank you, Lillian! We're very proud of you!"

Additionally, the cast of Damn Yankees performed a medley from the show onstage at the Auditorium Theatre, home to touring Broadway productions, during the ceremony. Students Olivia Davis, Kat Harms, and Tyler Thomas participated in an opening choral number alongside students from all over the greater Rochester area.

PLTW Biomedical Biofeedback on Relaxation

The Project Lead the Way Biomedical class is studying a unit on Biofeedback and relaxation. These techniques can be used in the medical field to help enhance effective treatments for patients. They were lucky to have Mrs. Stevens from the middle school come and teach the students all about the benefits of yoga and even some yoga exercises. The students can use these yoga practices to help their future patients relax in stressful medical situations.

Mrs. Mary Crelley, Counselor for Students L-Z

DID YOU KNOW? This year, Mrs. Crelley delivered teen Mental Health First Aid Training to all 10th grade students in their health classes; teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) is a national program that teaches teenagers ages 15-18 how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among their friends and peers. Students participated in 6 sessions of training throughout the school year with the ultimate goal of supporting their friends and peers and linking those friends to a responsible and trusted adult when they may be experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. If you'd like to learn more about tMHFA, you can find more information here or reach out directly to Mrs. Crelley!
