Superintendent's Update - 3.3.2023
Dear CPS Community,
The month of March certainly came in like a “Chelmsford” lion this week with Tuesday’s snowstorm and the impending weather this weekend. We will have to see if the familiar proverb “in like a lion…” holds true at the end of the month with “…out like a lamb” since March starts in the winter season and ends in the spring.
March kicks off with Women’s History Month. The month of March has been selected to celebrate and honor women’s contributions in American history. Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. In 1978, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission in California planned a “Women’s History Week” celebration. This group designated the week of March 8 to correspond with International Women’s Day. The effort spread across the country and other communities initiated their own Women’s History Week celebrations the following year. After the successful lobbying for national recognition by the National Women’s History Alliance, President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation – the entire month of March was selected to celebrate and honor women’s contributions in American history in February 1980. To learn more about the contributions of Chelmsford’s women in history, please visit the Town of Chelmsford website.
March is a very busy month in our schools, including the Parker Middle School performance of High School Musical Jr. with shows on Friday, March 10th, and Saturday, March 11th. You may purchase tickets ahead of time using the ticketing links listed in the newsletter for each of the performances. Please be on the lookout for correspondence from your schools for more events as we move through the month.
As a point of clarification, there was a discrepancy brought to our attention that the posted 2022/23 school calendar had a student half-day designated on Tuesday, May 2nd. This posting was in error, as the originally approved calendar never had a half day in May. The correction has been made to the website.
Please enjoy the highlights below in this week’s newsletter and have a terrific weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
