SISD Safety Update

House Bill 3
State Policy Update on Vaping
Beginning September 1, House Bill 114 will make it mandatory for any student who is found with a vape to be placed into the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
Sunnyvale ISD is concerned about the long-term health risks associated with vaping and e-cigarettes. Parents can be powerful allies in addressing this health issue by taking time to educate themselves and their Raiders about e-cigarettes and vaping. Please review the information provided below.
SISD will provide further information regarding this new law, but we wanted to make you aware of it now, prior to the start of school.
As a reminder, in the State of Texas, it is against the law for any person, regardless of age, to use tobacco products or e-cigarettes on school property. The Penal Code provides for citations of up to $500 for violations of the law.

First Day Traffic Flow and Parking
Parents,
The first day of school in SISD is typically a very fun and very busy around SISD campuses!
We hope providing some relief in the from of extra parking space for those who choose to drop off students that morning will help make your first day the best ever. Please see the above map and note the temporary parking on the north side of the high school, which is available to anyone who needs it.
Also, please note:
- Parking in fire lanes is prohibited - SISD buses must be able to pass.
- Please do not parking on corners - SISD buses must be able to safely make turns.
- Please be mindful of student walkers and bike riders. It's a busy morning and we need everyone paying close attention to their surroundings.
- Please do not speed.

Be Aware: New App Presents Student Privacy Concerns
An example of a Saturn app invitation on a student phone.
We want to make you aware of a new app that is making its rounds among young people. An app called "Saturn," which targets students, claims to help organize students and is, "...
only calendar that supports the complexities of the high school day — even the most chaotic block schedules."
However, the app may leave students vulnerable to privacy issues. Please research the app and have the appropriate conversations about digital safety with your Raiders.
BARK App Makes Online Safety a Priority at SISD
Sunnyvale ISD Family,
The safety and wellness of our students is a priority for Sunnyvale ISD. Therefore SISD is excited to announce we will be continuing our partnership with Bark for Schools, a nationally recognized school safety product designed to keep our students safe when online.
BARK for Schools monitors students’ Google accounts. Monitoring occurs when students are logged into their school account on any device (laptop, desktop computer, phone, smart watch, tablet, etc.) whether issued by SISD or personally purchased.
BARK monitors for concerns such as: weapons, violence, depression, suicide ideation, racism and pornography. These are concerns that are already covered by the SISD Acceptable Use Policy.
A student’s Google account can include e-mails, chats, images, videos, documents/attachments, comments, replies and more.
Please note that personal accounts are not monitored. However, the SISD firewall is in place when students are connected to our wifi.
SISD has always considered our parents our strongest partnership. Together, we can continue to keep all Raiders safe!
Mission Statement:
The mission of Sunnyvale ISD is to engage, equip and empower all learners for life-long success.
