Weekly Update ~December 16, 2022
Message from Mrs. Malvesti
Dear Montclair School Community,
It's been a busy week here at Montclair! The second day of report card conferences was held on Wednesday, students selected special gifts for their loved ones at the Holiday Shopping Bazaar, the PTO held a very successful and well attended Winter Craft Night, 1st grade families were invited to attend a Math Game Day in their child's classroom, and students got us in the holiday spirit during the concert! THANK YOU for your support of all of these events.
Please remember the following events planned for the coming week...
- Monday, Dec. 19 ~ 3rd Grade visits the North Quincy Fire Station
- Thursday, Dec. 22 ~ Student Council hosts a Cozy Sweater Day; wear a festive sweater and donate a $1.00 to help a Montclair family
- Friday, Dec. 23 ~ Show your Montclair spirit by wearing Red and Black!
- Friday, December 23 is a full day of school and school will be closed for the holiday break from December 26 through January 2, 2023. School reopens on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Enjoy the weekend!
Best,
Renee L. Malvesti

Holiday Concert
Click HERE for the video of the concert!
Montclair students made us proud during the Holiday Concert earlier today! For half of our students, this was their first time ever on stage. And, for others, it’s been years since they’ve performed in front of an audience. However, our students took the stage with enthusiasm and we all left the concert filled with holiday cheer.
Book Wish List
Mrs. Gibbons, our library teacher, is continuing to grow the variety of diverse books in our library and the books that she reads aloud to students. Please follow link below for the Amazon wish list of books that we are hoping to purchase for the library.

UPDATE: Thank you to so many of our families for your generosity in purchasing books!
Celebrations Around the World
My name is Joanna Chow and I am the new parent EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion) representative for Montclair. I have two kids, one in Kindergarten and one in 2nd grade at Montclair. I want to share with the kids all the different Holidays throughout the year that are being celebrated with their families.
This is where I need your help! There is a bulletin board that I would like to display photos and facts of the Holidays your family celebrates. It could be photos of the children, family photo or items used during the celebration. Each month will be a different grade, starting with Kindergarten in January 2023 and ending with the 5th grade in June!
You may send the photos to school with your child, please write the grade and the Holiday celebrated on the back of the photo. You may also email me your photos at jtan0725@yahoo.com.
Thank you so much for your help!
Joanna Chow

Help keep students healthy!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Illness season is among us! In order to keep your child healthy two of the greatest defenses against illness are hand washing and isolation.
Please keep your child home if he/she has any of the following symptoms:
• A fever, 100 degrees or higher, within 24 hours of school. Do not give your child medication in the morning for an elevated temperature and then send them to school. A fever signifies illness and should be treated as such with rest, fluids and Tylenol.
• Vomiting or loose stools within 24 hours of school.
• A cough that keeps your child awake, is painful or excessive and uncontrolled.
• A sore throat for 24 hours, especially with swollen glands or fever. If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, they must remain home for at least 24 hours after they start antibiotic treatment.
• A suspicious rash or eye drainage should be evaluated by your child’s doctor before coming to school.
COVID-19 UPDATE:
If your child has tested positive for Covid-19 they must stay home and isolate for 5 days. On day 6 they may return to school with a mask through day 10. If they are unable to wear a mask please use a home test and if negative on day 6 they may return to school.
If you are unsure about whether or not your child's symptoms are serious enough to keep him/her home, please feel free to call the heath office and speak with me at 617-984-8928. We can review the symptoms over the phone. It is preferred to arrive late than to arrive on time with contagious symptoms.
We greatly appreciate your help in keeping our community well!
Wishing you all a healthy winter!
Sincerely,
Cailin O’Dwyer, School Nurse
