TOUGH Students of the Month - May 2023
Glother Gabriel is the Student of the Month for the Class of 2026! Mrs. Smith nominated Glother this month for having heart. She states that “Glother has a huge heart. Even though he is not in Biology this semester, he makes a point to visit. He brightens my day when he stops by to see how I am doing.” Glother’s favorite teacher at Colonel has been Mrs. Smith. He says: “She was always in a good mood and she made learning fun.” For Glother, being Colonel TOUGH means “being strong mentally and academically.” After high school, he wants to attend college. FUN FACT: Glother loves football and wrestling!
Danika Jeanty is the Student of the Month for the Class of 2025! Mrs. Price nominated Danika, saying that she “really adds a lot to our class. She frequently gets conversations going and is always willing to help anyone who needs it. I also got a chance to see her with the tennis team this week, and she was always supportive and encouraging with her team constantly bringing them up!” The feelings are mutual because Danika mentioned that Mrs. Price is her favorite teacher. She states that “her class is one of the only classes I have where I actually want to engage and actively participate. She's super kind and is a great teacher.” For Danika, being TOUGH means “being the best version you can be, especially in the face of your peers.” She goes on to add “The most important part of being TOUGH for me is treating others with kindness. No one ever truly understands or even realizes what others are going through and it doesn't cost a thing to be kind to someone, even on a bad day.” After high school, Danika wants to attend community college before transferring to University to study forensic science. FUN FACT: Danika has a knack for reading and writing romance tropes and wanted to run a circus when she was younger!
Vee Toussaint is the Student of the Month for the Class of 2025! Vee was nominated by Ms. Atchison for obtaining goals, going above and beyond, and having heart. Ms. Atchison said that Vee “shows what it means to be TOUGH every day by coming to class ready to learn, ask questions, and try her hardest at everything she does. Vee goes above and beyond by taking amazing notes and collaborating with her peers to make sure that everyone is understanding a concept fully.” Vee’s favorite class is Geometry because she loves all kinds of math. After high school, Vee plans to go to college to be a traveling neonatal nurse. For Vee, “respecting others and treating people the way you would want to be treated” is the best way to show that you are TOUGH. FUN FACT: Vee enjoys playing sports!
Chris Bodman is the Student of the Month for the Class of 2024! Mrs. Burkett nominated Chris and says he “is an exceptional student and individual. His personality is funny, kind, and respectful. As a student, he is determined, intelligent, and tenacious. Chris holds himself to a higher standard of achievements and maturity than many of his peers which makes him an exemplary representation of Colonel TOUGH!” Chris wants to recognize Mr. Shelly for going above and beyond, saying: “Mr. Shelly as he tries to cheer everyone up. He is involved with the students in various activities and events throughout the year, not just his regular class schedule.” When his time at Colonel is over, Chris plans to finish his Associate’s Degree in Computer Science at Chesapeake College and then move into a 4-year University. Christ believes all aspects of TOUGH are important. He justifies his answer by saying, “Giving respect, understanding diversity, and having heart are important as it shows your overall character of how you treat others. Obtaining your goals and going above and beyond shows the character of the standards you hold yourself accountable to.” FUN FACT: Chris plays the acoustic guitar!
