2/13/2020 - Pre-Lottery Update
PRE-LOTTERY UPDATE
We’re so excited that the 2020/2021 student application lottery is only 2 days away! Our staff has been hard at work to ensure as many families as possible have the opportunity to win a spot for their child(ren) in our first-ever classes at IDEA Round Rock Tech.
If you are receiving this email, then an application for your child has been submitted and is ready for the lottery. This email is intended to cover some important information you need to know before and after lottery.
If you applied to multiple campuses, please be sure to read the WHAT IF I APPLIED AT MULTIPLE CAMPUSES? section below, as information which you may have received has changed.
KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER:
- · We do not provide transportation. All parents must pick-up and drop-off their students every day. Normal drop-off begins at 7:00am and pick-up begins at 3:45pm. We are hoping to extend this window to 6:00am – 6:00pm to help with work-related schedule issues.
- · Uniforms are required. All students will be expected to wear their uniform every day. More information will be given out over the coming months about uniform requirements.
- · Extracurriculars are limited. These will be based on student preferences. We typically offer some combination of soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. Other options we have seen are track or cross country, choir and drum line. We will build extracurriculars around student interest, but no specific sport or activity is 100% guaranteed at this time.
- · Our academics are strong. We push our scholars to succeed and believe that each and every one is capable of success. Part of this growth involves nightly homework and advanced classes.
We believe that every student can thrive at IDEA Public Schools, but we also realize that some families may be uncomfortable with one or more of the expectations outlined above. If you have concerns, we would very much like the opportunity to speak with you before the lottery. Please reach out to any of the contacts mentioned below in this newsletter.
NEXT STEP BEFORE LOTTERY:
Please verify your contact information and your child(ren)s information on our STREAM website. If you applied via a paper application or over the phone and have not made a profile, you can do so at the same link above and make sure to use the email and phone number that you used when applying. If you have any questions or need help for this step, please reach out to one of campus staff members at the contact info below.
NEXT STEPS AFTER LOTTERY:
If you are offered a seat at the lottery, we encourage you to accept or reject that seat as soon as possible.
- · Accepting your seat: We’re excited that you’ve made the decision to partner with IDEA Round Rock Tech! Accepting your seat allows us to quickly move your family along the path to the First Day of School.
- · Rejecting your seat: While we certainly don’t want to see any offers rejected, we understand that circumstances sometimes change. Rejecting your seat then allows us to extend an offer to another family and begin that process with them. We encourage you to reach out to us via email or phone before rejecting your seat to make sure that any issues you are experiencing can be addressed, if possible.
We will be available on Lottery Day, February 15th, to answer any questions you might have or to help you accept or reject your seat.

WHAT IF I APPLIED AT MULTIPLE CAMPUSES?
Some individuals have applied to multiple campuses, depending on where they live. If you are accepted at the campus you prefer, you should go ahead and accept your seat.
If you are waitlisted on the campus you prefer, but accepted at your second choice, do not accept your second choice offer. You will not lose an offered seat by waiting to accept it. However, if you accept your second choice offer then your first choice application will be automatically cancelled and you will be removed from that waiting list, since you accepted an offer at another campus. There is still a very strong possibility that you will receive an offer to your first choice as we work through our waiting list. We also recommend that you reach out to both campuses and let them know of your situation and your preference of locations and that you allow at least 2 weeks before making a decision to go with your second choice offer. Please reach out to us at the contacts given above to help understand this process better.
WHAT IF NOT ALL OF MY KIDS RECEIVE OFFERS?
If you have submitted applications for multiple children, it’s possible that not all of them will be selected during lottery. Don’t worry! We’ll be working through our waitlist and your children will be at the top of the list as siblings of new students. Go ahead and accept the seat for the children who received an offer and then contact us to make sure we’re aware of the siblings on the waitlist. We will be tracking all of this information and working diligently to keep all of your scholars together on our campus.
WE SAID YES CELEBRATION!:
On Saturday, February 29th, we are hosting a WE SAID YES celebration from 11am-1p at our IDEA Parmer Park campus for all families who have already accepted their offer for a seat at IDEA Round Rock Tech. Save the date now and be on the lookout for a formal invitation and more information when you accept your seat after lottery! This event will be a great opportunity to celebrate the new school, to meet some of your new staff (including both principals) and also to learn about additional activities that will be occurring throughout the spring and summer as we get ready for the 2020/2021 school year!
