Anna May Daulton Elementary
411 for week of October 30 - November 3
"Grit is like living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.” ― Angela Duckworth, Grit
New Teachers on Board: We have a full staff now. YAY! Ashley Byrd joins the 4th grade team as the new Language Arts/SS teacher. Lynzee Stock joins us on the Kinder Team. If you happen to see them in the halls, please introduce yourself.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Thank you everyone for meeting with each of your parents and providing them data. We saw many happy parents leaving after their conferences with you. If you had a no show, I would try to reach out to them for a phone conference before sending the data home with their child.
End of 6 weeks is November 3rd: Please make sure 2nd - 4th grade you have the required grades recorded. You should have one test grade in Language Arts, Math, SS, and Science to meet our MISD policy. Also, K-1 your report cards will also be sent home on November 9th!
Team Leader Next Week on Tuesday, November 7th: I changed our meeting until next week due to it being my final week until next year. I will have more to update with guidance from Donna O'Brian to share out with your team. Plus, we will talk about MOY assessments and timelines.
Data Meetings: We will discuss next week during team leader to get on our calendar for the week of Nov. 13-16 for Language Arts Teachers. Then the week of Nov. 27-30 for Math/Science.
Thanksgiving K Program: This will be the first one I will miss in 9 years. If anyone could record the program to send it to me, I would be forever grateful. It truly is what kicks off my holiday spirit.
Principal Update: Central Office notified me they will have an interim principal here during my absence. I do not know who it will be. However, Michelle will be working with them during my absence. I'm hoping to provide you a name by next week. Since I will not return until after our Holiday break, if you are in need of items to order, please turn in by next Wednesday.
Veteran Day, we will celebrate Friday, November 10th: I noticed today that Diane Lamar is reviewing a fun created PowerPoint with all students about Veterans Day before they start a grade level project. She is hoping to hang some artwork up in the hallways before our event. Amy Boyd is wanting to convert the display case this week to honor our staff Veterans. Please bring her some items to display. I love when students and parents see our staff connection to Veterans in our families.
As you start to get items for our Wall of Honor from your students, please turn in to Cogie. The breakfast will be in the cafeteria for the Veterans, which means students buying breakfast will need to eat in their classroom. Students will be served cinnamon rolls that morning. (YAY, not to sloppy) I would ask for everyone to arrive by 7:30 to greet students that morning because all student will be sent directly to class. If you have a parent or relative who is a Veteran coming, please work it out with you team to get coverage. We will skip morning announcements that morning. I will have PTA volunteers helping us set up outside. The gym will have Lake Ridge HS band students warming up.
FERPA: It has been brought to my attention that discussions are taking place about students in front of others. We have many parent helpers and subs now. Please make sure you discuss confidentiality during your team meetings this week. The purpose of the law is to ensure educational records are kept private and guarantee access to these records by parents. In general, the only person who can authorize publication of educational records is the student's parent(s) or an "eligible student." When you are talking about student concerns with those who do not have that student or the need to know of an accommodation, it is considered a violation. Especially when you are having these discussion in the teacher lounge, workrooms, and hallways where other people can hear.
Faculty Meeting- Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 30th. We will cover COA and short Dyslexia update.
SAFE SCHOOLS deadline is Friday, November 3rd: I'm sure if you have not completed the required trainings, you are receiving the wonderful reminder emails. Please make sure you are up to date. (Note: Lynzee, being brand new, is the only one exempt this go around.) Thank you!
Guided Reading Update by our wonderful reading specialist is changed to Tuesday, November 28 from 4-5pm due to scheduled Faculty Meeting.
