HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
As we move forward during the holiday season, there are many ways that our school appreciates the generosity of a variety of groups, families and other individuals. This year, again, we received donations for our students and families in need. Most importantly, we were able to share these generous donations such as hats, mittens, and meals. Our Gymnasium received new Volleyball Standards donated by the Corn Palace Area Volleyball Club too. The holiday season continues to bring out the best in people, which I am thankful for each year.
Also, we appreciate all of you that were able to donate marshmallows for our Student Council's Salvation Army drive. Congratulations to our school for collecting 650 bags of marshmallows. WOW! A shout out to the winning classrooms that won our challenge - K-2 Mrs. Talley and 3-5 - Mrs. VanOverschelde which earned Bingo with the Principal!
In January, you are invited to our Family Engagement night featuring the Energy Bus book activites. Please save the date for Thursday, January 12th. More detail will be coming in January when we return from break. We hope to see you there!
May you be blessed with treasured time with family and friends. Happy Holidays! Only the best to you and your family!

Mitchell Kernel Klub Coaches
For the first time in several years, 5th and 6th grade students have the opportunity to learn more about the game of basketball by being involved with the Mitchell Kernel Klub. We are thankful for the coaches above that are willing to work with our kids. In January, the students involved will play games on Thursdays too at the different elementary schools including GBR, LBW and Longfellow. Watch for more details of other sports being added for 5th and 6th grade this spring and next school year. 5th/6th Coaches left to right pictured above: Chaydon Metzger, Troy Moeller, Deb Thill, Leslie Rylance, Eric Hieb, and Esther Witte.

Wishing Everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season
As another year comes to a close, we have many things to be thankful for. Our children were a gift to us, so always remember to show them how much you love them, and are thankful for their presence in your family. A few "I love you's" shared here and there, can do a lot for a child. We can't buy their love, nor buy them everything they want; but what we can do is tell them how much they are loved every day. Some things to do over this holiday break with your child(ren) is to read them a book before bed, make some cookies together, go bowling, visit the library and see the many items available to the public, the options are endless.
As for New Year resolutions; start today. Make a positive change for your family. Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity, are all major health concerns on the rise nation wide. Begin by offering healthy food choices for meals. Many vital nutrients our body needs daily are found in appropriate food groups. Try at least 2-3 servings of fresh greens, 3-4 servings of fresh fruit or 100% juice, and dairy products for healthy bone development.
Also, try to incorporate at least 60 minutes of physical exercise a day. So, rather than watch TV, go outside and build a snowman, go sledding, ice skating; do what every you can to keep your body and mind healthy all year long.
Best wishes this holiday season and a happy and healthy new year

Reminder
- Please call the office before 8:45 if your child is late or will not be here. 995-3090
- We will be distributing fliers, classroom info. and important items every Friday. Please be sure to check your child's backpack.
- If you have a new phone number or address, please update your information in the office. This includes work phone number, personal phone numbers, and emergency contacts. When we have an urgent situation, it is vital that we are able to contact a parent. Sending a note with your child works, as does calling the office. Thanks in advance.
- Winter is here! Our weather can change quickly in the state, so we want to be prepared for an emergency dismissal. Please be sure that we have updated information in the office as to what your plans will be in the case of an emergency early dismissal. For example, if your student typically rides the bus, we need to know if you want them to ride the bus if we dismiss early. Thanks for keeping up informed!
Reminder when dropping kids off in the Morning!
When dropping kids off in the morning please avoid parking in the cut-out area on the west side of the school on University St. This area is for the Palace Transit buses that are dropping kids off in the mornings.
