New Showman Must Complete Required Quality Counts Program
What is Quality Counts?:
With showing livestock, comes a responsibility for each exhibitor to learn and demonstrate the highest standards, both in personal character and in the feeding and care of their animals. Focused on quality assurance and character education, Quality Counts is designed to teach young people the importance of displaying good character in carrying out livestock projects, and in every aspect of their lives. Quality Counts helps youth exhibitors learn the importance of using proper livestock management practices so that food quality and safety are preserved.
Students showing livestock must complete the quality counts online program. It’s a requirement for the livestock shows that the program is complete. You’ll actually provide your quality counts number on your show entry forms. When you’ve passed w/ an 80 for the program you receive a certificate – take a picture/screen shot of the certificate so you have the #s for your major show entry forms later. (San Antonio & Houston Show entries will be due Nov. 2nd - forms to come later, the form will ask for your quality counts verification number)

A little tip – you’ll register for the quality counts program on one website, which will then send you to the Texas A&M curriculum website to create a login in, so that you can access to modules later, I would write down your login info. Don’t hesitate to meet w/ Ms. Cole during PIT in person to get help setting up your registration & login. (livestock production class is completing this in class)
Vandegrift FFA Alumni Parent Meeting December 2nd
Our next Vandegrift FFA Alumni Parent Meeting will be December 2nd. Time & place TBD.
Despite the name "alumni", parents do not have to have been a FFA member previously to join. The alumni association exists to support our FFA members inside and outside of the classroom. In the past, the alumni has purchased materials to support class projects in addition to supporting students that make the sale with their livestock projects. Additionally, the alumni has helped fund travel to national contests and the largest thing they do for the program is raise money for senior scholarships.
The alumni chapter at Vandegrift has given out $46,000 in scholarships over the last 8 years, making them the largest contributor to seniors at VHS. To be eligible for a senior scholarship, students have to have been a FFA member for at least 2 years and their parents have to have been alumni members for that long as well.
Throughout the year, the alumni will be looking for great parents to help out with various fundraising efforts. Join today and stay plugged in by paying your dues on memberhub!
