Curriculum & Instruction Corner
Members of this committee: Crystal Gerken, Matthew Jones, Brian Lindley, Tammy Mateljan, Molly Neuman, and Julia Pick. Having representation at all grade levels (primary, intermediate, and middle school) allow us to have good input for the wants/needs of our staff.
Last week, our staff was able to get together to comb through the social studies standards (attached below), see how they be being taught/assessed in the classroom, share lesson ideas, and then look at the new social studies series samples. Last year we decided our social studies curriculum, resources, and materials needed an update. We took the first step in choosing a new series and had the teachers research and provide feedback on what curriculum series would best fit for their standards.
As you can see below, we have chosen the "Impact Social Studies" series from McGraw Hill for our K-5th curriculum and the accompanying middle school series that follows it. Last week, the teachers went through the Archdiocese of Omaha Social Studies standards and outlined where in the new books and resources these standards are taught, what additional supports come with the new material, and providing questions back to the committee.
