This session will focus on the high-leverage teaching practice of Close Reading. Teachers will learn how to engage students in Close Reading and provide necessary scaffolds to support student success.

Increasing Your Impact Strand: Kagan Strategies and Active Monitoring: 10:00-11:20 AM and 2:30-3:50 PM
This strand will focus on the teacher moves that will ensure coherent student learning and individual accountability. Participants will have the opportunity to explore strategies and plan for immediate implementation. This session will focus on the implementation of Kagan strategies and active monitoring.

Teach Like a Detective: Using Student-Centered Inquiry with Active Classroom : 10:00-11:20 AM and 2:30-3:50 PM
Participants will leave with expertise in the essentials of the Active Classroom including locating content, assigning activities, and assessing student work. Participants will receive space and time to use the platform to begin thinking about how they will embed this resource into their instructional practices. This will be a virtual session.

Document-Based Question (DBQ) Expert Cohort 2023-2024: 8:30-11:30 AM and 1:00-4:00 PM
Become a DBQ Expert! This cohort will provide an ongoing opportunity for teachers to learn about and collaborate on the implementation of the DBQ Process. Participants will be awarded a DBQ Badge and be on the path to becoming a DBQ Coach. No previous experience with DBQs is necessary, and teachers should plan to attend every session of the cohort. This cohort is recommended for 7th Grade Texas History, World Geography, and World History teachers, and participants should register for only one session each day.

This session will focus on what kinds of maps to use in the classroom and how teacher can use them to foster student understanding of the world. Teachers will also have the opportunity to explore different activities and strategies they can use to engage students using maps.
