Counselor's Corner
September's character education focus is Respect.
One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways, and we hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together! Respect is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership. [Derived from Character Strong]
Health and Safety
Facial Coverings
Current CDC guidance recommends the wearing of facial coverings for vaccinated and unvaccinated persons when indoors and in confined spaces.
Self Screening
The best way to prevent the spread of illness in our schools is to stay home when ill. Students should not attend school if they have a fever of 100.0 F or higher or new onset of any of the following symptoms of illness that may include:
• Loss of taste or smell
• Cough
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Headache
• Chills
• Sore Throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Exaggerated shivering
• Significant muscle pain or ache
• DiarrheaAttendance
Things to remember about attendance procedures at our school:
1) School starts at 7:45 a.m.—students who are not in class by 7:55 a.m. are considered tardy. Students who are 30 or more minutes tardy, will be considered as a “POD30”, which is a part-of-day attendance violation.
2) K-5th Dismissal is at 3:05 p.m. (Pre-K 3:15 p.m.)—students may not be released after 2:30 p.m. because dismissal procedures will have already started.
3) Students who are picked up before dismissal time will be considered as an “early leave”, which is a part-of-day attendance violation.
4) Excuse notes for absences must be returned to the front office no later than 3 days after returning to school.
5) If your child has excessive absences that have been excused by parent notes, the principal has a right to not allow anymore parent notes as excuses--only doctor's notes or notes from the school nurse will be excused.
Let us know how we can best support you and your children so that they can show up for school on time every day. We want your child to be successful in school! If you have any questions or need more information please contact our front office.
