The WILDCAT Way
Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat!
Taylor Talk
This past week I was extremely proud to be a Wildcat! Thank you students for your behavior during the Talent Show! Thank you to our student and faculty participants who entertained us. Thank you to our parents and community who came and supported it. A special thank you to Mrs. Morris, Coach Chiriaco, and Mr. Kyle for all your help during the Talent Show! Thank you to Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Black, Mr. Ferguson, and Mr. Campbell for monitoring the students who didn't attend. I heard many compliments from your teachers and parents concerning your good behavior and talent. I hope we will continue with our Talent Show for years to come.
Great improvement on showing school spirit during the Homecoming Pep Rally!! I especially noticed how our 8th graders stood and cheered almost the entire pep rally! I loved seeing your school spirit and the support of our parents and community!
This is a short week. Thursday is a half day for students. We will have Parent Conferences on Thursday from 2-6pm. If you would like a conference, please let your child's teacher(s) know. No school Friday! It's the start of FALL BREAK!!
I hope you each have a GREAT week. West is BEST!
Mr. Taylor
Stay Updated!
To stay updated on what's happening at West Limestone High School or any Limestone County school, please keep your child's information up-to-date in PowerSchool when you enroll and throughout the school year. If your phone number or email changes throughout the year, please email Anita Kyle at Anita.Kyle@lcsk12.org to make those corrections.

Free College Application Week
Did you know that it costs approximately $40-$60 to apply to ONE college!!! EXCEPT for Free College Application Week when it costs NOTHING to apply to MOST colleges in the Great State of Alabama!
Come see Mrs. Anita Kyle October 16-20 and get to filling out college applications!
We will have a special event on October 19th in our high school media center for all seniors to chill and apply to colleges all throughout the day! We will have reps from Calhoun, UAB, UNA, and also our career coach there to answer questions for you.
Fall Formal
- The WLHS Fall Formal will be on November 4th at Southern Charm in the Owens Community.
- The Formal will be split into 2 groups: 9th-10th and 11th-12th grade. Each group will have 2 separate times.
- Sunday Attire is permissible. You are more than welcome to go all out but not necessary.
- Students will need to see Ms. Andrews to buy tickets and all checks need to be made out to WLHS and include a phone number.
- To ensure we continue with these activities and possibly offer more of them throughout the year, we need to have proper behavior and appropriate clothing at all events--whether it's a formal, pep rally, or any school event. We want to be able to provide fun activities for our students, so we need your help to ensure we can continue with the extra activities.

What is Bullying?
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.
In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include:
- An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
- Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.
Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.
Never participate in the bullying of another student or group of students. Bullying is never OK! If you or someone you know is being bullied, please report it immediately! Please use this form to report bullying. We want each student to feel safe coming to school.

-
High School - Students entering grades 10-12 must have passed 6 subjects that total 6 Carnegie units of credit with a minimum composite numerical average of 70 (must include the four core: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies).
-
Middle School – Students entering grades 8-9 must have passed 5 new subjects with a minimum composite numerical average of 70 in those five subjects.
2023-24 STUDENT HANDBOOK
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
LCS Truancy Policy
Habitual/excessive unexcused absences from school may require Board officials to refer the matter to juvenile authorities or to initiate truancy proceedings. Seven unexcused absences within a school year constitute a student being truant for the purpose of filing a petition with the Court. The following Early Warning timeline will define the truancy status of a student:
- 1st truancy/unexcused absence – Warning
- 3rd unexcused absence – students will no longer be permitted to participate in field trips
- 5th unexcused absence – parent and administrator conference
- 7th unexcused absence – court
Only doctor notes will be accepted for student absences once a case has been filed in truancy court.
ATTENDANCE
- Students will have 10 days per year that can be excused by a parent note for the following reasons: personal illness, hospitalization/medical appointments, emergency, death in the immediate family, court subpoena, or religious holiday
- If absent, the parent has 3 days to send in an excuse- either parent or doctor's excuse or the absence will be unexcused.
- 3 or more unexcused absences within a semester = no participation in school field trips
- E-Learning Days - students who qualify are allowed 6 days per year. One of the qualifications is no unexcused days. E-learning days do not count as absences.
- Students with unexcused absences may make up work for up to 70% credit.
- For every 3 Unexcused Tardies, parents will lose 1 Parent Note.
E-Learning Day
Chronic Absenteeism
To address problems with chronic absenteeism, students in Grades K-12 who accumulate 18 or more absences, whether deemed excused or unexcused, are by definition chronically absent and will not be allowed to participate in non-academic school activities (e.g., prom, in-school games, dances, and field days).

TITLE I STATUS
We are a Title I School. Our status as a Title I School is determined by the percentage of students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Title I Schools are provided federal money based on their rank of the percentage of free/reduced lunches within our school district. This money provides schools with the necessary funds to hire staff to reduce classroom sizes or interventionists who work with students to close achievement gaps. Some schools use the money to purchase software, provide professional development, or provide other instructional materials needed.
Based on last year's free-reduced lunch count, our school will receive about $148,824.12 which will be used to hire two teachers and two interventionists. Of that amount, $2276.17 will be used for Parent & Family Engagement.
These funds are highly beneficial to our school, so please complete the free/reduced lunch application today at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict. The link is found on our webpage www.westlimestonehigh.org and on the District webpage www.lcsk12.org. Choose "Alabama" and then choose "Limestone County BOE" for our school district to start the application.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES: If you feel your child could use some school-based counseling or you would like some recommendations for outside services, please see our school counselor Mrs. Helen Thrasher or Mrs. Velvet Black.
