National Jewish American Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month is an annual recognition and celebration of Jewish American achievements in and contributions to the United States of America during the month of May. Please consider in sharing the stories of Jewish Americans in building the cultural fabric of America's history. Below you may find links to sites that provide resources to honor this month.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month During this month the history and achievements of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) are recognized and celebrated. Asian Americans, and Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders make our nation more vibrant through diversity of cultures, languages and religions. There is no single story of the AANHPI experience, but rather a diversity of contributions that enrich America’s culture and society. The American story would be impossible without the strength, contributions, and legacies of AANHPIs who have helped build and unite this country in each successive generation. From laying railroad tracks, tilling fields, and starting businesses, to caring for our loved ones and honorably serving our Nation in uniform, AANHPI communities are deeply rooted in the history of the United States.

National Law Day
Law Day, celebrated on May 1 and throughout the month of May, has been a visible part of American legal culture since President Dwight D. Eisenhower established it in 1958 to celebrate the rule of law in a free society. The 2022 Law Day theme— “Toward a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change”. The goal of this theme is to emphasize how the Constitution is a dynamic document, that not only outlines a blueprint for the government but also establishes mechanisms for change
Throughout the month of May consider inviting guest speakers in the law fields to speak to your students or read more about other activities you can embed in your classroom in the links below to celebrate the rule of law.
Memorial Day - NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH
Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2022 will occur on Monday, May 30th.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades.
We know that the school year will be done by the week of May 30th, but we encourage you to share with students the last week of school the significance of the day. Below please find some resources to use in your classroom.

National History Day - History Fair- Congratulations Megan Dill of Chasco Middle
TWO FLORIDA EDUCATORS NOMINATED FOR NATIONAL HISTORY DAY® TEACHER OF THE YEAR
April 11, 2022, College Park, MD–Two teachers from Florida have been nominated for the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year award. Mrs. Megan Dill, a teacher at Chasco Middle School in Port Richey, Florida has been nominated in the junior division of the National History Day (NHD) National Contest. Mr. Joshua Roberson, a teacher at Seminole High School in Seminole, Florida has been nominated in the senior division of the National History Day (NHD) National Contest. The award is sponsored by Patricia Behring in recognition of the pivotal role teachers play in the lives of students.
Each of the 58 National History Day affiliates may nominate one high school and one middle school teacher for this award, and Mrs. Dill and Mr. Roberson are this year’s nominees from Florida. Every nominee for the $10,000 award is a teacher who demonstrates a commitment to engaging students in historical learning through the innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills, and participation in the National History Day Contest. All nominees will receive $500 as a result of their nominations.
“This award recognizes the very best educators from across the nation and beyond,” said National History Day Executive Director Dr. Cathy Gorn. “These educators are leaders and innovators in the teaching of history, and we are all the more impressed because of the extended difficult teaching circumstances due to the pandemic during the last year. I wish to congratulate both Mrs. Dill and Mr. Roberson on their well deserved nominations.”
The national winner will be selected by a committee of experienced teachers and historians, and announced on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the National History Day National Contest Awards Ceremony to be held virtually due to COVID 19. Nominees’ work must clearly illustrate the development and use of creative teaching methods that engage students in
history, and help them make exciting discoveries about the past.
