10 REASONS TO LOVE PONTIAC: A message from assistant principal, Jessie Williams

10 REASONS TO BRAG ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

1. Did you know that we were recently named to the SIC Honor Roll for the Dick and Tunkey Riley SIC Award for the second time? Just 10 schools in the entire state of South Carolina received this recognition!

2. Don’t forget that our Montessori program was recognized as a Nationally Certified Magnet School!

3. 5th Grade Montessori student, Caroline Venn, is a published author and conducted an author visit here at the school in November!

4. We have the Regional School Resource Officer of the Year, Deputy Proctor, serving at Pontiac!

5. Our Assistant Principal, DeAnna Savage, and our USC PDS partners presented at a regional PDS conference and will present at a National PDS Conference next month!

6. Our other Assistant Principal, Jessie Williams, was given the Outstanding Community Partners Award by his alma mater, The University of South Carolina and was recently recognized by our school board for this honor.

7. We are one of two schools in this district to own its own book vending machine! How cool is that??

8. We have 4 Instructional Assistants that are enrolled in a program designed by our district in partnership with Columbia College to help them become certified teachers. We have the most candidates in the district!!

9. Students at Pontiac are taking leadership of their school in so many ways! Students are leading the charge for running the morning news show, making afternoon announcements, delivering coffee to the staff, ensuring safe entry to the school in our car rider line, helping our custodians by cleaning up scuff marks on the floor and making deliveries on half days, bus assistants, delivering mail to teachers, organizing the media center, assisting our art teacher, peer tutoring, writing inspirational quotes for display in the lobby and the list goes on!!! Our students are really taking leadership here at Pontiac. We are a designated Lighthouse School! Just 500 schools in the world have received such recognition!

10. Our overall State Report Card rating is GOOD!!! We are rocking and rolling and won’t stop until we are rated EXCELLENT, because we are an EXCELLENT school!!

Level Up Leadership is our exciting, student-selected video game theme for our upcoming leadership events! Do you have a connection with a business or donor who might be willing to donate a new video game system to our school? African American Read In

The faculty and staff of Pontiac Elementary School cordially invite you to be a guest reader for our “African American Read-In.” During the month of February we want to heighten student awareness of the importance of reading. Our focus will be on books illustrated, written by or about the culture of African-Americans. You can bring your own selection or we will have books available for you in the library. Please accept this invitation to bring reading to life for the children of Pontiac by filling out the attached form.

Pontiac Elementary Elementary School is located at 500 Spears Creek Road, Elgin, SC 29045. Light Refreshments will be served in the Media Center.
