Dear Thacher Families:
We held our second fire drill of the year this morning. The fact that a building with over 600 people in it can be emptied in under five minutes is pretty impressive. This also happens to be fire prevention week. While its imperative that we have fire emergency plans and drills here at school, we hope you take the time to discuss similar plans for your residence as well. For helpful information, please check out the official Fire Prevention Week site.
Sincerely,
Frank W. Rich
Principal
TES October Family Activity
**Please return by October 20th**
Students can give their completed activity to their classroom teacher to give to Mr. Rich and Mrs. Desautel.
Halloween is just a few weeks away! Our principal, Mr. Rich, and assistant principal, Mrs. Desautel, need help deciding on Halloween costumes!
Can you help them design their costume? Print a copy of the below TES October Family Activity file and decorate! You can use newspaper/magazine clippings, glitter, crayons, markers, etc., or anything that will help your idea come to life! Mr. Rich and Mrs. Desautel will look over all the entries and each will pick a winner from the ideas they receive.
The winning ideas will receive a small prize AND Mr. Rich and Mrs. Desautel will wear their winning idea for Fall Spirit Day on October 31st!
r If your family needs a printed copy of the sheets below, email sdesautel@attleboroschools.com to request one. Please include your student’s name/grade/class in the email request.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
This Month in Health & Wellness
Hello Thacher Families,
For those that I have not been able to meet yet, my name is Ms. Ashley Hanson. I have been a physical education teacher for over ten years and am excited to be joining Thacher Elementary school this year as the Health and Wellness teacher. The first weeks of school have been full of introductions, getting to know all of the students, and becoming accustomed to classroom routines and procedures. We’ve been dancing, playing outside, doing scavenger hunts, being introduced to different foods each week, and working on our quiet feet through the hallway!
We’ve started off the year with an introduction to the Zones of Regulation, which is a social emotional learning approach to help students identify their feelings and to work on self regulation strategies to manage bigger or more difficult emotions. No feeling is a bad feeling and no zone is a bad zone; being able to communicate and regulate emotions will hopefully help in limiting unexpected behaviors, improving friendships, and building trust with teachers and peers.
Looking forward to October, we will be exploring the skeletal system, as well as the importance of accepting and celebrating differences. The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, by Joe Troiano, will be showing our students that it’s good to be different, and that those differences are what makes each of us special.
Here are links for some of the videos and strategies we have been using in class:

Have a safe and healthy October!
