September News
We're trying a new format for newsletters!
In an effort to reach more families through our newsletter CRS will be using the smore website to create easy-to-read monthly memos that will be easily viewable on your device or on your computer. We look forward to hearing your feedback!
If you haven't already, please also take this opportunity to text "YES" to 978338 so you can receive school messenger notifications, which is how we will send out our newsletter each month.
Principal's Messages
Welcome back, everyone!
Even with the fenced-off goat paths around the exterior of the school and the ongoing demolition of the old building, we have had a terrific start to the year. To be honest, it’s hard to believe that we are already a month into the school year but we are arriving at a point that is always great time for learning - students are settled into their new class routines and our staff has gotten to know more about them and, as always, they are working hard to provide them with meaningful learning experiences.
As I mentioned in my last blog post, we’re emphasizing literacy, wellness and engagement here at CRS. When it comes to engagement, that also includes you and the rest of our larger school community. We are looking forward to getting to know you and to work with you to ensure your child’s success! Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or to Mr. Pederson and myself in the office if you have questions or something to share about your child.
It’s going to be a great year!

School Attendance
We endeavor to have all students' attendance entered before 9:00 am. After 9:00 am, any student that has been marked absent, with no parent call, will start calling and emailing the child's family. This helps to ensure our students are safe.
Our phone lines can be very busy, so please leave a message or try again if you don't reach anyone. Mrs. MacKay is in the office taking calls starting at 8:30 am.
Students who arrive late, can come in through the front door and we will sign them in and send them off to their class.
School Communication
School Messenger - please text the word "YES" to the number 978-338 to start receiving texts from the school. (standard text message data rates may apply) We often use this to send school reminders about early dismissal days, newsletters, hot lunch reminders, or in the case of a school-wide emergency, this is how we would be in touch with our school families initially in an efficient manner.
If you have signed up but are not receiving the texts or emails, please email Janeece, our admin assistant at jmackay@brsd.ab.ca
PowerSchool Parent Portal
As schools (and businesses and day-to-day tasks) continue to shift online, if you need any support setting accounts up online, please contact the office at 780-672-5588.
Real-Time Reporting Update
CRS is part of a real-time reporting pilot project this year. This means that, rather than producing traditional report cards, our teachers will be working to provide regular and consistent updates in their markbooks, which will include comments about student achievement attached directly to the assessment items in the markbook. We are excited about the potential of this change to help create an ongoing dialogue about student achievement with families and to partner more effectively with you in your child’s learning. Please note that families who want a printed report card can contact our office with your preferences. (Printed report cards will not have traditional report card comments, however.)
With our focus on literacy and with the realities of building relationships and establishing routines with young students, some classes are beginning to assess learning outcomes, while some of our younger grades may still need a little more time. However, you can expect marks to start showing up in PowerSchool very soon if they haven’t already so be sure to set up your PowerSchool account and download the app and, if you need support, please call out office.

District code for the app is NTPH
Office Forms
To access and complete this form, you will need to:
1. Log into the parent portal via your web browser (Google Chrome for example).
2. Click on the SchoolEngage icon. You will be redirected to the SchoolEngage site where you can select your child's name.
3. Click on the 2022-2023 Student Verification Form and then on the blue icon in the first column to review the information.
4. Once you have completed your verification, click on the green submit button.
This is incredibly important and we really appreciate your help in getting this completed quickly.
Fees
Additionally, this is where chocolates for the fundraiser can be purchased, hot lunch (when that comes), field trip fees, etc. Fee invoices will be sent home before the end of September. This has the child's ID number on it to create an account.
Welcome back BBQ - October 5

School Picture Day
October 20 - The KTT class will have their photos done.
Photos will then be sent to the school for us to hand out to students. Then, if you choose, you can order online through the photo company.
* If your child will be away on the 19th, please let their teacher know so we can have their picture taken on the 20th.
Food in the school
Birthday treats - Birthdays are so exciting and special for students. As fun as bringing in special treats for the class can be, we are asking that you don't bring in class-wide treats, instead just a treat for your child if you wish. With many different situations and needs - financial, religious, medical, allergies such as gluten, dairy, nut, and many special nutritional considerations we ask that families don't bring in special treats or items for the whole class.
Special event treats - (such as Halloween) - Some classes have small celebrations or activities throughout the year and may send out information about bringing food into the class. Our school policy is that if parents choose, they can send special treats for their child, but we ask that you don't provide for the whole class.
Utensils - you could consider sending a bag of spoons or forks with your child to put in their locker when it is forgotten in their lunch. The office has a very limited supply to offer.
Health and Wellness
One of the messages was: Belonging…find ways to make everyone feel like they belong here, at Chester Ronning; smile, wave at or say “hello” to other students and staff in the hallways, include someone from your class into your group, and at recess, make sure everyone is included and nobody is playing alone. Let’s continue to make this a warm and welcoming place for all!
