Principal's Message...
Dear Sierra Families,
It was fantastic to see so many people attend Back to School Night.
Families have many goals for their children. Some of these goals include being fulfilled, happy, confident, responsible, kind, and loving. Teachers want these outcomes for their students too. We recognize that you are also one of your students’ teachers and we want to partner with you in supporting their personal and academic success. To support these goals and to help students build social and emotional skills, we are pleased to share that we are implementing Harmony SEL in our school community.
Harmony is a social and emotional learning (SEL) program that gives every child opportunities to learn vital relationship-building skills in a supportive learning environment. In addition to having personal social and emotional benefits, SEL is associated with significant gains on academic achievement tests. The Harmony program is designed to build healthy relationships among students by having them engage in activities that promote understanding and respect. Over the course of the four units listed below, students will embrace their abilities to learn, collaborate, and spend time together.
• Being My Best Self
• Valuing Each Other
• Communicating with Each Other
• Learning from Each Other
You will continue to receive information about Harmony and what your child is learning, including activities in each unit that you can try at home. We can’t wait for you to find out more about Harmony Goals, Meet Up, Buddy Up, and other fun learning strategies we’re using in the classroom. To learn more about Harmony and explore the curriculum on your own please visit our no-cost online learning portal at online.harmonysel.org. We welcome your feedback.
Have a great weekend,
Reagan Phillips

Notes from Mrs. Young:
Welcome back all!
I am excited our music activities will be addressed each month in the newsletter. We are currently singing songs and reviewing our note reading skills. A favorite so far has been the cup passing song Hiccup Buttercup. A few things to mention: first is that fourth and fifth grade students will be getting recorders passed out to them next week, but do not take them home. I do however encourage families to help spark that creativity by getting their student a recorder off Amazon, if so able, to keep at home. Practice always makes better. :)
Our band information night is also coming up at the end of August, so if your 5th grader is
interested in band be sure to turn in the form so I know how many to expect. Attendance is not a commitment so all are welcome to attend. Finally, the after school enrichment classes sign ups begin on the 29th - I can not wait to see who I will be seeing in the guitar and keyboard classes this year!
I hope everyone has an amazing year. Stay cool!
