Dear Families
We hope you are all in good spirits and not being deterred by all this rain!!
We have had a few wet weather days which have meant that some recess and lunch times have been inside. On these days children engage in all sorts of indoor activities.
It’s hats on this term! Most children have been remembering to wear their hat when outdoors. The office has a supply for sale if you need one that can be ordered via QKR.
As the weather improves we hope our attendance at school also improves. It is important for all children to be at school, on time, every day for continuity of learning as well as developing and maintain friendships. When children are absent or late they find it difficult to fit in, often being worried and anxious. We want all children to be happy at school, learning, socialising and having fun.
We are in the midst of athletics. Congrats to several children who have excelled and to some who have progressed to the next level. Unfortunately the weather prevented years 3, 4 and 5 from competing at the inter-school event however the practise has added to their fitness.
We are now planning for 2023. Please call in to chat with us if you have anything you think we should consider when placing your child in their class for 2023.
Our new 2023 Foundation students have commenced transition sessions and are all looking eager to join Bourchier St PS.
There are several excursions and fun learning situations planned for this term so stay tuned for some great conversations with your child.
Enjoy the coming weekend … we hope it is free from rain!
Kind regards
Denise
MURRAY OUR SCHOOL DOG
Murray has settled into Term Four quite well. He has spent time in many different classes from Foundation all the way through to Year Six. The wet weather has been a bit of a challenge for Murray. It is so wet and if you have seen Murray you would know his fur is quite shaggy. So Murray has had to deal with muddy paws a fair bit. The forecast is that there is still more rain to come, so yes Murray’s muddy problem will persist, not that he is complaining!
He is still learning to relax at school and this will remain as a persistent goal for Murray. Murray has been listening to children read, helping them with their writing and has even been taking selfies with members of the community.
It is important that we all understand the role we have to play to help Murray relax at school. Before Murray even came onto the school site, all classes learnt about three ways we can help Murray to be calm and relaxed. Here they are again!
- Say Hello to the person, not the dog. Can you imagine people saying your name hundreds of times every day? It can be really confusing for Murray when lots of people are saying hi to him all day. It can also make him excited, and Murray will do his job better when he is calm!
- Give Murray Space. For the same reason as above we need to ensure Murray has space. We wouldn’t want people crowding us everywhere we went. Murray needs his space as well!
- Keep moving, don’t stop and stare. It is much better for Murray if he understands that the whole world is not about him! He needs to know that we will do our own thing and he is not always the center of attention.
Murray is still getting settled into the term and is at school three days a week. One day soon he will increase to a four day a week timetable. He is looking forward to it! If we can all remember the three expectations we are setting him up for success.
splash! foundation swimming
Foundation students have had a great week diving into their swimming sessions at Aquamoves.
Each day we travelled on the bus and practised our diving, safe entry and going under water.
As this was Foundation’s first-time doing swimming with school, they were very excited and eager for the new experience.
Already there are some potential future Olympians ready to hit the pools of the world.
bOOK FAIR - Mon 17 to Fri 21 October
Dear Parents and Families,
Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair on Monday 17th to Friday 21St October before and after school in our school library an we would love to see you there!
You and your child will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites.
This is also a great way for you to learn about and discuss your child's interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.
Scholastic Book Fairs help us show students the wonder of reading. After all, when kids choose their own books, they will be more excited to read, and they will naturally read more!
