Tech this out!
November 2020
In this newsletter:
- TK-5 progress reports
- Meet and Zoom COAST November Challenge Content
And all the flashback news you might have missed in the last newsletter (because emails can be easy to miss...)

Progress Reports
Woah.... that means we have survive-thrived through almost a third of the year already! Well done, you!
I want to share some files that might help you, if you aren't sure/can't remember how the TK-5 progress reports in Q work.
Here is the Google folder with several files to help answer questions you might have
- the screenshot guides to show you how to submit marks in Q
- how to print progress reports
- PRO TIP--- before you "create report" to print report cards, check that "enrolled on" date. Sometimes Q thinks it is funny to choose a date in 2019. What a jokester! :)
- a blank progress report for each grade level and
- a spreadsheet to show what some of the abbreviations in Q refer to.
Click that button to see it all! Yay!!

Meet and Zoom
The COAST November Challenge is here for you! You always have access to all the learning tasks, but each Tuesday or Wed (or, let's be honest, maybe Thursday) of November, I will email you a weekly challenge, highlighting two tools. Week 1 (hitting your inbox this week) will focus on Zoom and Meet.
I encourage you to check it out. There is no "one thing" that will meet everyone's needs, and the fine line between support and too much is a tough one to find, so just know this is available, it's easy, it's fun, and..... here is the November challenge part.... the points you earn in November will be doubled in the surf shack to get stuff.
Watch for an email from me or from hesdcoast@hueneme.org and we will have fun learning some new Zoom and Meet skills! You can sign into COAST at bit.ly/hesdcoast anytime and check it out--- use the search feature, because the answer to your question might be waiting for you! Learning is fun!

Educators using Eduprotocols unite!
Looking for some fun lesson structures (eg work with any content) that will get your students working and learning?
Many of you may know what Eduprotocols are--- designed for quick repetitions to cement learning while saving teacher time and increasing student input. Based on Jon Corippo and Marlena Hebern's work. Thin Slides, Iron Chef, Fast and Curious--- these are Eduprotocols.
Are you ready and interested in some collaborative groups to support each other in trying new lesson ideas? Complete this Google form or send me an email and let's see what we can put together!

easyCBM
- Students (and you) have to use the Hueneme link. https://hueneme-ca.easycbm.com/
- Pro Tip--- your user name is just the FIRST part of your email
- Students need to complete the assessment in one sitting, the website doesn't save their progress, but they don't have to be online with you.
- You can go to the student tab when you are signed in and "add a new record" if you have a student who isn't on the list yet.
- Need more help? Screenshot guide for teachers and a Quick video to show you what it looks like and also, here is a Screenshot guide for students
- Want to see student results? Check out the Reports tab or button. I'm pretty sure the number you see is just the number correct, and it shows their percentile and risk level. This info might help you plan some small groups at some point, but really, this quick measure isn't intended for the deep dive we may have done in EADMS. It's more like a snapshot screener.

Talking Points
If you haven't used it before, you might be looking for a guide, a how to, an instructional piece. Here it is:
1. Go to Clever
2. Open the Talking Points tile--- it might be near the bottom of the screen
3. Take a look at the Talking Points screen. Do you see your class? Do you see where to send a message? That's it. It really is pretty simple.
Need more info? You may be getting emails from them, but if not, take a look at this YouTube playlist of super short videos to answer your questions.
Here's something cool--- it will automatically translate to the family based on their selected language in Q. OR, if you are bilingual and want to use your own translated words, you can turn that off.
---> If you notice errors (a phone number that is wrong, etc) contact your office manager because that information needs to be updated in Q. Then, it will be updated in Talking Points.

Flocabulary Fun
Check out Flocabulary and you will see the standards alignments search where you can see lesson plans and videos. We have some activation links so you can sign in and get access. Fun, music and learning! Does it get any better?
Click here for the Flocabulary Activation link
And Click here if you want to know how to use Flocabulary--- It's a Teacher Access Guide Google Doc of Goodness!

A Support Site reminder
- tickets are better than emails, where technology and accounts are concerned.
- read the automated emails from Get Help-- they often have personalized info/questions from the techs. You can reply to them.

Student account info
If you have emailed me and asked how to sign into this, or how your students sign into that, chances are, this is the doc I have sent you. It's a lot to keep track of!

Videos to support student tech use
I also have the links to the screenshot Google Slides there. Maybe you want to make your own Screencastify video, or make a copy of the slides and add something specific to your students.
Pro tip--- Bookmark this Doc, or add it to your Drive (don't make a copy of it, click the little Drive icon with the + by the name of the Doc when you open it--- that way you will see when I update it with new videos)

Hueneme COAST 2020 edition
You should, like, fur sure, check it out! (Oh wait, that is valley talk, not surf talk. I'll try harder next month)

As a reminder--- all this news will be added to Blog posts for you to refer to later.
And if you have a great idea (or even a moderately okay one) that has been working for you, let me know! Guest posts make us all better!
