Cordelia Hills Staff Update
3/19/2021
Principal's Message
I believe Cordelia Hills is a safe environment that is striving to build a culture of anti racism, anti bias, and equity. While we do not always meet the mark, I believe we have to stand with our Asian American and Pacific Islander families, student, and staff members and with all historically marginalized groups. I hope you can join me in taking a firm stance to not only be against racism but to be actively anti racist.
I appreciate each of you and the steps to make your classrooms feel safe, inviting, and rooted in kindness and justice. I am including a few links I have pulled together. There are many. Do not feel obligated to use them but reach out if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns.

Staff Shout Outs
I would like to give a huge shout out to Ms. Ryan. She has not only been a tremendous help with technology this year, but a motivator and challenger as well. Without her I would not have been able to survive Distance Learning and all of its Tech challenges--Tracy V.
Thanks to Kathy, Tory, and Jennifer for helping to rethink our K drop off/pick-up. And thanks to the K team for doing so much to prepare for next. Your personalized touch means so much to our families.
Thank you to all of those that have turned in draft schedules. I appreciate the chance to review them.
Shout out to Ms. Ryan for organizing the handwashing Flipgrids. They are great and are getting a lot of attention in the community!
If YOU have a staff shout, send me a text or email and I will add it for the next week =)
Hybrid Schedules
Physical Education and Art Schedule
Please remember that while these schedules are publicly available, they are not EXACTLY friendly for your students and parents. You should send your parents a description of your plan for your class.
Also, remember that IN-PERSON students will receive release asynchronously. Distance Learning Students will attend release virtually and live each morning.
Gene and Janet will communicate with you about changes to links/google classrooms/etc.
Finally, if you haven't already done so, please send me your google class meet code and/or any code to join your third trimester google classroom.

Self Screening/Masks:
Safety starts at home each day. Complete a COVID-19 Self Screening Tool BEFORE you come to school. Mask coverings are required for everyone on campus at all times.
Visitors and Parents on Campus:
Current guidelines do not allow for anyone on campus except school staff and students. Help your child build independence by teaching them to gather their belongings and exit the car during morning drop off.
Dropping Off:
Designated drop off spots exist for every classroom (see below). Gates do not open until approximately 8:10 each day. We may open them earlier the first few days to help students adjust. If you are dropping off in a lot using your car, please do not exit the car with your child or leave your car for any reason. Remember to pull forward to help traffic flow.
What does the classroom look like:
Every classroom is a bit different but common items are air purifiers and distanced seats (minimum of 4 feet from student to student and 6 feet between student and adults). Here is a link of a classroom being set up (first grade). Setup Video
Supplies:
Supplies are not being shared right now. Some teachers may provide all needed supplies or may reach out to you about specifics. Most students will continue to need to have their Chromebooks. Please remember to charge them if you are bringing it to school.
Pick up: Pick-up of students is by foot (except for TAP and those with a blue placard). See below for pickup/drop off spots.
Cleaning: The day custodian is responsible to disinfect frequently touched surfaces and interior/exterior door knobs/handles. Restrooms are disinfected twice each day. The custodial staff has also implemented daily cleaning practices.
PE/ART: Students attending in person will have PE/ART asynchronously in the afternoons. Students remaining in Distance Learning will how synchronous live PE/ART each day in the morning on Google Meet. The assignments and times will be shared by teachers.
Distance Learning: In general distance learning for those remaining in DL will start at approximately 12:40. There are exceptions for some classes and for certain students. Please reach out to your teacher for a specific schedule on what distance learning will look like.
Recess: While in person students do not have "recess", teachers are allowed to give breaks and playground is open. The key is that classes must remain in their stable groups. We are not allowed to mix classes or have students from different classes playing in the same space at the same time.
To Go Lunch: The school will provide a bagged lunch (and a next day breakfast) to any student who wants one, free of charge. Your teacher will work to determine who wants one. The Wednesday lunch boxes are still available at Green Valley from 7-1.

AAPAC
The first meeting of the African American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC) will be held on Wednesday, March 24 at 4:00 PM.
The purpose of the group is to provide a forum to hear the ideas of Cordelia Hills African American/Black families. We aim to give space and a platform to provide feedback, to have input on policies and programs, and to share resources and information about the school and community. We collectively seek to promote transparent two-way communication between parents and the school on matters and events of broad educational and social interest particular to African American families.
All families and staff are welcome to attend our initial meeting. We look forward to seeing you.

Good News and March Students of the Month
Remember, you can submit Good News for students via the form below. I missed a couple of the good news shout outs from late December and noticed today. I will get those out ASAP. Thanks!
CARE Solace
I wanted to reshare a resource that is being used by Fairfield-Suisun Unified. Care Solace is an online resource that connects our families, students, AND staff with mental health support. I have heard from a few families and trusted staff members who were beyond impressed with the service. Often, seeking mental health support is viewed as a weakness but just know I whole-heartedly support those that seek any assistance they need, especially as we work through a difficult time.

History-Social Studies Curriculum LATEST UPDATE**
Chromebook Distribution/Chromebook Repairs/Space to Work!
CB distribution Is still underway to new families. Email MailyW@fsusd.org or have families email her. She will arrange a time for pick-up. Some families are using their own and that is okay. Originally, we thought MAP would have to take place on a District device but we now know that isn't true. Chromebook or Laptop are preferred over an iPad.
