Next week is a very exciting week at CHHS as we renew our rivalry with our crosstown friends in the Battle of the Red Rail. While I believe the thrill of competition on the field is exciting and should be valued, we cannot allow our emotions to lead us to making poor decisions outside of school. Our goal as a campus is to exemplify PRIDE in everything we do, and we have a great opportunity to demonstrate that this week as we choose to make good decisions. In addition to an exciting game on Friday night, this is a very busy week for many of our students. Tuesday, Oct. 18th at 4:15 the band will be competing in a UIL marching contest at Pennington Field. Wednesday, Oct. 19th, all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT beginning at 8:40 in the morning and seniors will need to report to the auditorium on that day at 11:45am for a mandatory meeting. Thursday, Oct. 20th, our Cross Country team will compete in the district meet beginning at 9am at Buff Ridge Park. Also, Thursday begins the running of our fall musical, Darn Yankees. Opening night is Thursday the 20th with additional showings on Saturday,Oct. 22nd and Monday, Oct 24th. Finally, capping off an exciting week is the football and volleyball games Friday, Oct. 21st against GHS. I look forward to the many different ways our students will be putting their PRIDE on display, and I can't wait to see everyone there. GO PANTHERS!!

What two things do you enjoy most about Colleyville Heritage High School?

I enjoy getting to represent my school through the Pantherettes. As the captain, I get to practice my leadership skills, and learn the importance of responsibility. All members of the team have truly become my best friends. It is so fun to get to represent your school and show your school spirit with the people that make you the happiest.

I also enjoy getting to further my education by learning from great teachers. I have really developed relationships with my teachers, which only makes learning that much more fun. All of my teachers are focused on helping me become the best student I can be, and I really appreciate that.

STADIUM PARKING

Please remember that there are businesses that have normal operating hours during the evening time and possibly at the same time that we are hosting football and other events at Mustang Panther Stadium. Our neighbors need their parking spots and are responsible to their customers as their parking areas are private property. GCISD provides overflow parking and shuttle services from Grapevine High School to Mustang Panther Stadium free of charge. Utilizing this free service and respecting our neighbors will help everyone to have an enjoyable experience at Mustang Panther Stadium.

Your Lady Panthers had a great night Tuesday with all teams bringing home a win against Richland! We have our last home matches Tuesday, October 18, and we will be celebrating Senior night!! Then, on Friday, October 21, please come and fill the stands for all our teams when we take on Grapevine at Grapevine. Varsity will be playing to win the title of District Champions! GO PANTHERS!!!!

Please come and support the CHHS Panther Choirs by eating at the Black Walnut Café, located at 1205 Church Street in Colleyville (next to Life Time Fitness off Highway 26) on Tuesday, October 18th from 5pm until close. This wonderful restaurant has something for everyone, including an all day breakfast menu, soups, salads, appetizers, pastas, burgers, signature entrees, and scrumptious desserts and gelato. All 9th-11th graders will be taking the PSAT test on Wednesday, October 19th. Students must bring an approved calculator and two #2 pencils (they can not be mechanical). Students should arrive early after eating a good breakfast. They will be in a testing environment from 8:40am-12:20pm, and should not be checked out of school except in the case of an emergency.

Colleyville Heritage Athletic Trainers have been selected to facilitate a Back to Sports meeting in partnership with the National Football League and American Heart Association. Back to Sports is educating parents and guardians about youth wellness, the benefits of physical activity, and basic sports safety and proper responses (concussion awareness, heat and hydration, prevention of overuse injuries, and cardiac arrest and proper response). The goal is to help keep kids healthier and safer as they participate in sports. Don’t miss this important interactive meeting on October 19 in the CHHS Library at 6:30 p.m. Practical tips, CPR training, and updated sports safety information will be presented.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness and Education, the CHHS Panther Cheerleaders are making their annual Think Pink wall for the Panther Rally on Friday, October 21.

If you know someone who is currently battling breast cancer, has won the battle against breast cancer, or has lost their battle, please email leslie.ferris@gcisd.net their name and their status by Wednesday, October 19.

Each person will be recognized on our annual Thank Pink wall during the Panther Rally.

CHHS's PREP (Panthers Ready for Extra Practice) Program is an after-school tutoring option for all CHHS students. From 4-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, teachers and students are on hand to provide free one-on-one tutoring, test makeups, and seat time (to make up for class absences) in the library. To make it possible for all students to participate, at 6 p.m. a late bus drives students to 3 drop-off locations: Mid-Cities Blvd. & 360; Grapevine Mills Mall and Grapevine Middle. Because 6 p.m. is a long time from lunch, and hungry students can't concentrate well, CHHS is providing snacks for students who stay until 6 p.m., so PTSA is sponsoring a food drive to help stretch the school budget and stock up on these snacks. So, if you can pick up a box of individually packaged snacks the next time you are at the grocery or Costco, and then donate those to the school, please sign up here. The PTSA and CHHS Administration is hosting this year's Senior Class Picnic for all CHHS seniors on Friday, Oct. 28, in the gym during all lunches (12-2 p.m.) Please go to this Sign Up Genius link to volunteer and donate items for the picnic. NEW: Senior dads willing to grill during the picnic are needed! Parents are invited to make a poster for their senior to display at the picnic. Every CHHS students who participates in the PTSA Reflections contest will receive a free gift card to Colleyville’s Menchies location. The theme this year is “What is your story?” Students can compete in any of these categories — literature, visual arts, photography, dance choreography, musical composition, or film production. CHHS AP Booster Club is partnering with Guru Academic Advising to bring convenient on-campus college planning support for our students.

CLASS of 2018 COLLEGE PLANNING SERIES

College planning series of classes for the class of 2018 beginning OCT 2016 through JUL 2017. Every month, the group of ten students will meet for three hours of college planning support led by Guru's Emily Paulson. The class will cover the college planning process from start to finish, giving students expert advice and feedback.

COST: For $550, you'll receive 29 hours of college planning support. One or two payment options are available.

Workshop designed just for Seniors by Guru Academic Advising's Emily Paulson.
This is timed to help seniors working on their college applications to ensure that all aspects of the process are covered.

• LOCATION, DATE, TIME: CHHS, Saturday, October 29th from 9:00-11:30 am.
• WHAT'S COVERED: Students will go over a checklist to finalize their college applications, review essays, discuss next steps such as financial aid and scholarships, and answer any questions regarding the college application process.
• COST: $30; Class size is limited to maximum of 40 students, with a minimum of 20 students.

GCISD is sponsoring its annual College & Career Night, combined with GCISD's Financial Aid Information Night from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Grapevine High School. All CHHS & GHS high school students and parents are invited to attend and connect with representatives from more than 125 colleges (4-year, 2-year, technical) as well as military personnel. There will also be financial aid presentations to help families navigate how to pay for college.

It’s time to submit the number of adult volunteer hours you volunteered in SEPTEMBER for any CHHS organization. PTSA collects the number of volunteer hours on behalf of the entire school, so that GCISD can use them for applying for grants and our state-wide ratings and advocacy. This is only parent hours, not students’ Community Scholar hours (see CSAP program guidelines on the Counseling website about that). CHHS fathers and grandfathers are invited to participate in the 2016-2017 Grateful Dads Greeter Program, a part of CHHS PTSA that encourage the involvement of all dads on campus. Greeters greet students as they arrive on Friday mornings. Principal Dr. Groppel receives lots of positive feedback about the impact this program plays in the attitude and motivation of students. The students notice and they appreciate the effort and the presence of Grateful Dads. Greeters are needed for Friday of each week from 8:00 am to 8:40 am in three locations on campus. If your senior is interested in attending Tarrant County College (TCC) in the Fall of 2017, please have them stop by the Go Center to sign up for College Access.

If you have denied credits on your transcript from spring of 2016, you can still earn seat time to recover the credit. All seat time must be completed by the end of the 1st 9 weeks. Please see your Assistant Principal to discuss your seat time needs.

Be sure to check your schedule for any classes that may be at GHS. These classes will have room numbers starting with an 0 instead of a letter. You will be shuttled to GHS. You must be at the bus pick up at least 5 mins. before the dismissal bell of the previous class.

Those who have GHS classes for 1/5 period will need to be at the bus stop at the back of the building. (There will be a bell at 8:30am to remind you to catch the shuttle bus at the back of the building.) All other classes at GHS will need to be at the bus stop in the front foyer.

The Attendance office will not dismiss a student until parent contact has been made by parent note or parent phone call. (E-mails will not be accepted ) Our preference is for the parent to send a note to the Attendance Office with their student first thing in the morning. The Attendance office will exchange the parent note for an Early Dismissal form. The parent note must include the student first and last name, time of dismissal (not the time of the appointment), reason (personal or illness) and the parent signature and phone number. Parents do not need to come in to the school to check out their student if you have sent a note for dismissal or called in advance requesting a dismissal.

If you decide to come to school to check out your student, please allow us plenty of time to locate your student. It takes a while to locate students in a building as large as ours (30-45 minutes). Students are particularly hard to locate if they are in their athletic class or at lunch. If you send a note requesting the students early dismissal with your student in the morning you will eliminate time spent waiting for us to locate your student.
