Hubenak Elementary - February 1, 2022
Husky families,
How is it already February? I am amazed by how fast this school year has seemed to fly by! It is also hard to believe that we will celebrate the 100th day of school this Thursday.
Next week, we get to celebrate our amazing counselors in recognition of School Counselors' Week. If you see Ms. Bradshaw or Ms. Walcher out and about on our campus, be sure to thank them for all they do for our school!
Be sure you are continuing to monitor district communication through their website, and you can find the most up-to-date district's COVID-19 Protocols here. As a reminder, families are expected to screen their students for COVID-19 symptoms each day prior to sending their student to school.
I will be sending out newsletters often throughout the year to keep you informed and up-to-date about campus happenings. The structure of the newsletter will remain consistent. If I have new information to share, it will go in the "New Information" section near the top of the newsletter, followed by repeated information.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate in reaching out.

When you have a staff as hardworking and wonderful as ours, identifying our Teacher and Paraprofessional of the Year can be extremely difficult! However, we can't think of two more deserving staff members than these two!

Remote Conferencing Suspension
We appreciate the community support you have provided as we continue to focus on high-quality instruction through the course of this pandemic. Thank you to our families for continuing to comply with our isolation protocols for students that are confirmed or suspected of COVID-19. The health and safety of our students, faculty, and surrounding community is our number one priority.
Starting Monday, February 7th, LCISD will be suspending remote conferencing for students that are in isolation/quarantine. These teachers will now be mobilized on campuses to assist with in-person teaching and learning. A student with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive test or suspected of having COVID-19 will continue to be excluded from attendance at school and may return under the following criteria:
- If symptomatic, at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset and fever free*, and other symptoms have improved.
- For those with no symptoms, at least 10 days after the day they test positive.
*Fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-suppressing medications. Fever is a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Compulsory attendance still applies for students. Any student placed in quarantine by an outside entity (physician, County, parent, etc.) will need to provide documentation to the campus for the absences to be excused. Please continue to reach out to Nurse Band if your child is confirmed positive for COVID-19. As stated above, during the exclusion period, starting Monday, February 7th, students will no longer access Remote Conferencing. If well enough, we encourage students to access Classlink and Canvas to access educational resources. As always, we encourage our Huskies to read, read, read! Parents, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher during quarantine with any curriculum questions you may have. Please rest assured that we will work together to ensure your child gets caught up on class work and graded assignments when they return. The most important thing is that our Huskies are healthy and well-rested when they return!
As always, if you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out. We are all in this together!
Hubenak Enrollment Freeze
Lamar CISD is proud to be the 5th fastest growing district in the state of Texas. In fact, demographers project that our community will add more than 43,000 new single-family homes within the next decade. In 2020, Lamar CISD had the greatest number of new housing starts of any school district in the State of Texas.
To keep up with our growth, we are frequently building and opening new schools—while regularly reviewing and monitoring enrollment.
Due to the growing student population that resulted from new growth and development in the area, the district is enacting a cap on enrollment for Hubenak Elementary located at 11344 Rancho Bella Pkwy effective January 1, 2022 - May 31, 2023. This decision allows class sizes to remain at acceptable levels while not overloading instructional programs at the campus.
This enrollment cap is a temporary solution while the district continues to work towards building new schools in the area.
For the remainder of this school year:
All new students in all grades will be sent to Huggins Elementary for enrollment.
For the 2022-2023 school year:
Kindergarten/Pre-K:
All kindergarten students zoned to Hubenak may enroll for next year as normal. Pre-K enrollment will also be open as normal.
1st-5th grades:
If you are needing to enroll a new 1st-5th grade student, they will attend Huggins Elementary until the freeze ends. There will be no exceptions to this.
Special situations for 2022-2023: if you are needing to enroll a 1st-5th grade student, as well as an incoming kindergarten student, the kindergarten student may enroll at Hubenak, but the older students may not. Assuming you want to keep all siblings at the same school, you have the option to enroll the kindergarten student at Huggins as well.
If you have any questions about enrolling a new student at Hubenak Elementary, please contact Yvonne Thompson: 832.223.2900, marie.thompson@lcisd.org

AM Car Rider Reminders
Here are some helpful reminders that will speed up our car rider line:
- Once in the front drive of the school, pull up to the next numbered “Paw” or person located on the sidewalk. Please pull up as far up as you can and close the gaps between cars.
- Students should be ready to exit the car. They should have their backpacks, lunches, etc., and exit quickly out of the passenger side of the vehicle.
- As soon as your child is safely out of the car, pull forward. If the car in front of you is not finished unloading, please exit the line on the left side and pull forward.
*The tardy bell rings at 7:30 a.m. Please help us by getting your student to school on time.
Walker Dismissal
Additionally, we ask that all other parents stand in the grass directly behind the daycare and not on the grassy side near Mirandola street. This will allow for a clear walking path for our students and clear visibility for our staff members.
Val-o-grams are coming! Deadline approaching!
Please see the attachments below for more information!
RAVING FANS SHOUT OUTS
As a staff, we have made a goal to create as many "raving fans" out of our students as possible! It is important to us that every student who enters our classroom, whether in-person or virtually, is excited to be here! It is also important to us to create raving fans out of our students’ families and community members. If you feel one of our staff members has gone above and beyond the call of duty, I would like to hear about it so I can recognize them!
Please email me at Ernest.Bainbridge@lcisd.org to let me know of any staff member(s) that have made a "Raving Fan" out of you throughout this school year!
REPEATED INFORMATION
2020-2021 Hubenak Elementary School Report Card
Hubenak Elementary is sharing the below information about the district and your child’s campus with you as part of its obligations under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
Federal Report Cards for the state, the district, and each of the district’s campuses are now available on the district’s website at this link:
https://www.lcisd.org/departments/academics/raa/performance-reports-and-legal-postings or are also available on the Texas Education Agency’s website at: https://tea.texas.gov/finance-and-grants/grants/essa-program/federal-report-card.
If you have difficulty accessing the information from the website, hard copies of the reports can be requested from the district or campus office. If you have questions about the information, please contact 832-223-2900 or the Lamar CISD Research, Assessment, & Accountability Office at 832-223-0138.
Below is a detailed description of these reports and a pdf copy of Hubenak's Report Card.
Character Counts
The character trait for the next two months is fairness. Fairness is playing by the rules, sharing and treating others fairly.
Lunch Visitors
Even though the district amended the visitor policy before winter break, our lunch reservations will stay in place for the remainder of the year due to our high enrollment and limited space in the cafeteria.
Until further notice, we are only able to accommodate five visitors per lunch period. We have set up a Sign-Up Genius below so parents can reserve a spot for lunch. Parents will be limited to reserving a table once a month to allow for as many children as possible to have lunch visitors. The reservations are on a first come, first serve basis, and once each time slot has been reserved, we will not be able to accept any additional visitors due to lack of space. Each child may have up to 2 visitors (this includes younger siblings).
On the day you are scheduled to eat lunch, please remember to bring your driver’s license with you. You will want to arrive about five minutes early so your reservations can be checked, you can receive your visitor's pass, and you can complete your COVID screener prior to walking down to the cafeteria. Finally, please remember you will only be allowed to eat with your personal child. Parents will not be allowed to sit at the tables with the class or approach the other students eating in the cafeteria. We have repurposed our lounge area in the cafeteria as our designated visitor lunch area. Once lunch is finished, your child will join their class in line to walk back to class, and you will walk to the front office to check out. If you have any questions, you may call the front office.

Safety Alerts
Make sure you don’t miss any important information and get safety alerts sent straight to your phone by signing up to receive texts from Lamar CISD!
To sign up, click here: bit.ly/2KGcv2o
Please note, we are required to conduct two practice safety drills each month of the school year. We will always send parents a text announcing the drill just before it occurs.
Change in Transportation
Transportation changes must be received by 2:00 p.m. We are not able to process changes made after 2:00 p.m. Any change in transportation arrangements for any student requires a note to the teacher or a phone call to the office. Make sure you write your child’s first and last name, teacher’s name, and indicate the date(s) for the change and how the child is going to get home. We ask that you not email the change since there may be times that a teacher is not in attendance or does not have a chance to read their email during the school day. Transportation changes emailed to the front office clerks are also not allowed.
Birthday Treats
Your child’s birthday is very special to us! The children are invited to come to the main office where they receive a birthday ribbon or button and choose a special birthday pencil.
In accordance with district policy, parents may bring a treat for a child’s birthday. Treats may be dropped off in the front office. Because of the time constraints, the treat is limited to one item per classmate, and it must be a store-purchased single-serve item (i.e. cupcake, cookie, etc.) so that it can be served, eaten, and cleaned up within a reasonable time. School parties are scheduled twice a year. No other parties including birthday parties are observed at school. Gifts, balloons, flowers, or other deliveries to students are not allowed. Invitations to individual parties may not be distributed at school.
