Ebola is still a threat, and must be monitored!

Ebola has been raging through Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Liberia has been one of the hardest hit countries in the worst Ebola outbreak in history.


The Kriterion Monrovia students were among the first carry out awareness and prevention campaigns. Over the months they became one of key organizations in the fight against Ebola, successfully raising awareness and distributing hygiene kits and food items in more than 300 communities since the outbreak. At present, Liberia stands close to 0 cases, and Sierra Leone and Guinea are still dealing with many cases. As long as West Africa is not Ebola-free, the risk remains ever present.


Kriterion Monrovia is a University-based non-governmental organization which promotes students and youth initiatives in empowering themselves and their communities through culture, education and entrepreneuralism, for the development of Liberia. Composed of a group of energetic young people, we are working on the establishment of an arthouse cinema in order to promote film and culture in Liberia, and offer part-time jobs for young college students, to reduce the unemployment rate and create financial independence of young women and men of Liberia.

The inspiring students that run Kriterion are a team of extremely knowledgeable, hands on, and hard working individuals who wish to bring more culture and youth empowerment to their country! Donations will go directly to the educational grassroots activities.

Awareness-raising in schools

After 7 months of schools being closed due to Ebola, they finally re-opened. It is necessary to sustain the success by preventing that complacency does not settle in and that preventive measures are followed. Kriterion Monrovia will execute awareness campaigns in about 200 schools in greater Monrovia.

Story-telling

Story-telling is a mean of communication and recovery. The psycho-social impact of this crisis will be long-term. Everyone has a story worth being told, in particular but not only in regards to the past year. This will partly be done in collaboration with the Network of Ebola Survivors.

Community screenings

With the help of a generator, projector and loudspeakers, hundreds of people are easily brought together to enjoy a movie and talk about it afterwards. These are great opportunities to convey messages to people about different issues (Ebola, lack of education, water & sanitation, gender topics,...)
