Counselor's Corner
The students at Central Elementary are learning Problem-Solving skills. We are discussing how to solve Interpersonal problems; this is a problem that happens between two people that causes them to feel upset. We also learn that feeling calm first can help them think about how to solve the problem. The students are learning to describe a problem respectfully, without using blame words such as “You always…” or “You never….” We then try to come up with a variety of solutions and see which one works the best for both people.
Our older students are learning the same thing but they are using a multistep process to solve common problems- disagreements or misunderstandings between two or more people. We are working on learning each part of the STEP process.
S-say the problem
T- Think of solutions
E- Explore the outcomes
P- Pick a solution
Research shows that children who learn the skills in this unit are more likely to:
- Have better mental health
- Make more positive choices
- Be more connected and passionate
A Note from Mrs. Panzer.
How is it March already? It seems like February just flew by.
Speaking of February, we really appreciate your attendance at Parent/Teacher Conferences. It is important to us to partner with you in your child’s education. I know all of our teachers and students are working really hard to make gains in reading and math.
This week is Read Across America Week. Our librarian, Mrs. Weil, has worked really hard to make this a really fun and educational experience for our students.
Spring Break is almost here! I hope you all have a terrific week of Spring Break. I would like to strongly encourage you to encourage your children to read for about 20 minutes every day during that week. It’s even better if they can read to you or read with you!
Wishing you all a magnificent March!
