Reproductive Health
Reproductive Health will be taught to all of students December 18th-20th during our afternoon fine arts classes. Additional details regarding the curriculum and teachers will be provided the 1st of December.
Federal Cards
Federal Cards will be available to complete in parent portal now. Any student that has theirs completed by Nov. 17th will receive a homework pass that they can use at the teachers discretion. If you have not set up your parent portal account, please contact the school.
Military Family Month
November was first declared as Military Family Month in 1996. Since then, November has been a time to acknowledge the tremendous sacrifices our military families make. They contend with separation from their families and adjustments to new living situations and communities.
Nurse's Note
Tentative Date for Student's Flu Immunizations is December 18th at 12:00.
If you'd like your child to receive dental cleaning and sealants on school premises, please fill out the Health Promotion Specialists form that went home 3 weeks ago.
Attendance News
Attendance notes are due within three days of your student returning to school. You may email them in at pattersong@bcsdschools.net or send them in with your student. You can check attendance at anytime in parent portal.
8th Grade Field Trip
On Friday, December 8, the 8th grade will be taking a field trip to downtown Charleston. The students will be participating in a historic walking tour to reinforce information learned in their social studies classes. The cost of the trip is $25 per student. Each homeroom teacher will choose one chaperone to attend the trip as well. If you are interested in chaperoning, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. The cost for chaperones is $15 and to be selected you must be cleared as a BCSD volunteer. Please visit www.bcsdvolunteers.com to complete the volunteer clearance.
Permission forms were sent home on Monday, October 30. The permission forms and money are due to Mrs. Ackerman no later than Friday, November 17th. If you have any questions about this trip or payment, please contact Mrs. Majewski majewskie@bcsdschools.net
Fine Arts News
Seventh grade fine arts students will be hosting and performing in this year’s Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 10 at 9:00 am in the MMSOA auditorium. Due to limited space, we are inviting veterans and seventh grade parents only this year. We look forward to seeing you there.
Chorus News
Please join me in congratulating the following MMSOA students recently selected for the 2023-24 SC Allstate Chorus! Over 650 students from 35 schools across the state auditioned. 180 were selected. We are 1 of 2 middle schools representing BCSD this year. I’m very proud of all who auditioned!!

Congrats to 8th Grade MMSOA Students in HS Marching Band:
Congratulations to the following 8th grade students, performing at a High School level as members of the Stratford High School Marching Band. Bianca Benrexi, Sebastian Catangay and Maddie Lamphere. They were recently part of history, participating in Stratford's first Bands of America competition, earning 8th place in the state. Please wish them well as they prepare to compete in next weekend's State competition!
Orchestra News
Symphonic Scholars After School Strings Club
● Day: Tuesdays starting Oct. 31
● Time: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
● Location: Marrington Middle School of the Arts
***Congratulation to Kelvin Greene, bassist for being accepted into the Newberry University Honors Orchestra ***
- 7th grade Orchestra will perform on Nov. 10th for veterans day( in school). All 7th Grade parents are invited to join the performance.
- 6th grade Orchestra should be working on #58-68 in their book. We are using bows and placing fingers down on the strings to change notes.
- Instruments should be going home during the week or weekend for practice. Musicians are allowed to come to the strings room at 7:55 am to practice as well.
- Things to do: Attend the Improvisational Styles Concert at Berkeley HS on Nov. 9th at 6:30PM. Musicians from BHS , SHS and CBHS will work with Composer/ Performer James Anderson to learn improve and different alternative styles techniques. If your musician would like to attend the clinic you just need to let Mrs. Raymond know.
- Did you know- Students receive discount tickets with the Summerville Orchestra and Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
- Winter Concert Dec. 12th at 6:30PM
MMSOA Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO)
On Friday, October 27th we had our Annual Trunk-or-Treat Fundraiser. Because of your support, we were able to raise funds to continue supporting the students, teachers and staff at MMSOA! Thank you to all who came out to join in for the fun. We would like to extend our special thanks to the Renaissance Club for their amazing contributions to a successful Trunk-or-Treat fundraiser!
