It is difficult to believe, but we are nearing the end of our fall semester. We hope that you and your family had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving.

We are looking forward to a strong conclusion to our second nine weeks. This marks the half way mark of our school year. Students and teachers are working hard.

As always, we thank you for entrusting your children to us, and we look forward to a blessed and peaceful Winter break.

What a great opportunity it was for our students at Beeson to have empathy for others and to develop a gift of knowing when someone needs help and acting on it. Thank you to all for your contributions!

This January, Beeson students in first through fifth grades are invited to participate in Kids Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart). Kids Heart Challenge is a fundraiser for American Heart Association, to aid in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Participating students will earn prizes/gifts for collecting donations. The event will start through the month of January. More details on the event will be sent home with students when they return from winter break.

The Character word for the month of December is caring about others. To truly care about others means that we do things to show that we care. We do this out of respect and because we feel empathy toward others. We put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and try to imagine how it would feel to be them. How would it feel if the same things were happening to us? This thought process helps us make good choices and helps motivate us to do things to show that we truly care. In the spirit of Christmas; reach out and help others that you see need a helping hand. Be a good role model for other family members by being the one to take the initiative to help a neighbor, friend, extended family member, or perhaps someone else who is less fortunate. Maybe we should all start out the New Year by giving more and asking for less. The Rewards are usually much greater than any present found under a Christmas tree!

We will be discussing:

Fairness:

· Treating others equally/same

· Not taking advantage of others

· Listening with an open mind to another’s point of view

· Standing up for yourselves and for others

· Speaking up and standing up against unfair situations

We will follow up these lessons in February by discussing different types of PREJUDICES and the influences (people, places, and life experiences) that help us develop our OPINIONS.

Please be sure your child is dressed for the cold weather. All students will go out for recess each day weather permitting. We usually go outside when it is 20 degrees or warmer. Any school cancellations will be announced on the TV, radio stations, district website, app & text messaging. Make sure you have signed up for the free USD443 app.

With the cold weather, the cold and flu season comes. Please keep your child home if they are running a fever of 100.4 or higher, they should be kept home until free from fever for 24 hours. If your child is experiencing vomiting/diarrhea, they should be kept home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. After missing school for three or more days, a doctor’s note maybe required.

If your child is ill, please notify the school each day by 9:00 a.m. The school will notify you if your child becomes ill. It is very important to keep the school office updated on any changes in your emergency numbers! That includes change of work numbers, cell phones, etc. Thank you for your help in these matters!

Dear Beeson Families,

We would like to welcome everyone back from the winter break and hope that all were able to enjoy the time to relax and participate in some memorable activities with family and friends. As we move into the second half of the 2021-2022 school year, we want to welcome any families who are new to Beeson and trust that you will find yourselves to be part of an outstanding and supportive learning community.

In looking ahead, students will return to school on Wednesday, January 5 and we want to ask our families to be mindful of re-establishing the necessary routines to ensure that your students are in attendance and on time each morning to get each school day off to a great start. In addition to morning routines, we also ask our families to continue to be mindful of early dismissal habits as well. Although there are times when an occasional early dismissal is necessary for an appointment or urgent family need, early dismissals should be minimal as this loss of instructional time can certainly affect a student’s performance. As always, we appreciate your support as our teachers and students strive to maximize their instructional time shared each day.

In closing, we want to thank all of our families for all that you do in supporting our students and teachers as we look forward to an outstanding second semester here at Beeson!
