Three Things to Look for in 21st Century Classrooms
When Greg Garner was a middle school teacher, a classroom observation he received from his principal made him realize he needed to explain why the “organized chaos” in his room was actually a good thing. As a new school year get underway, it’s a great time for teachers to think about what their classroom look like and if there are any changes to make to move it more toward a 21st-century classroom environment.
TECH TALK - Pixton
Pixton is a cartoon creation tool that allows its users to create awesome comics. Pixton has also a growing community that anyone can access to contribute with their own comics. This tool is very easy to use and does not require any artistic skills to work on it. You can introduce it to your students and let them create their own comics and share them with each other. Tap into the power of comics to capture your students’ attention and imagination. Over 4,000 backgrounds, 3,000 props, and 700 subject-specific comic templates. Besides the free individual accounts, Pixton offers a service designed specifically for schools called Pixton for Schools which is not free. This service enables teachers to create private rooms for their students in which they can collaboratively create and share their comics.

The style is known as "personalized learning," and a study involving 36,000 students just upheld it as a major driver of improvement in reading and math skills. Conducted by the education consulting company Education Elements, the study spanned five districts across the US for 2-3 years, tracking how students performed on the NWEA MAP test.
