Read Across America!

Braddock Elementary School will celebrate Read Across America with a Spirit Week to Celebrate Reading! Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness event sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) that calls on every child in every community to celebrate reading. The NEA theme for 2020 is Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers with a focus on diversity in children's literature. BES will celebrate our love of books from Monday through Friday with the following Spirit Week schedule:

• Monday, 3/2 - Braddock Eagles are Well-Read! Wear something red to school.
• Tuesday, 3/3 - Student Holiday
• Wednesday, 3/4 - Reading Rocks! Wear Wacky Socks! Wear your craziest socks!
• Thursday, 3/5 - Team Up with a Good Book! Wear a favorite sports shirt or jersey.
• Friday, 3/6 - Reading Gives You Super Powers! Dress like a superhero or wear a superhero tee shirt.

The BES Library will provide a flyer for each student in your class. Please be sure to send this reminder home with your students in their Friday folders on 2/28 and remind students each afternoon what the theme for the next day will be.

Join the BES Library for a fun reading event in March! The March 21-Day Read Aloud Challenge is a great celebration of reading aloud for Braddock Eagles.

• Every class that completes the 21-Day Read Aloud Challenge will receive two books for their classroom library from the BES Spring BOGO Book Fair!
• It's easy! For 21 days, post a photo or video each day of your class enjoying a read aloud to one (or all) your social media accounts (twitter, Facebook, Instagram) with the tags: tag @Read Aloud for Facebook; @BesNmfoley & @ReadAloud_org for Twitter; and @read_aloud_15 for Instagram with #21DayReadAloud.
• If you prefer, you may also send them to me: NMFoley@fcps.edu to post.
• There are lots of ways to participate! Upper elementary classes/students can buddy read with a primary class/students. Invite a guest speaker to read to your class. Remember to take a picture!
