Continuing to push forward
Good Morning Solon High School Families,
We have now made it through our first few months and students have experienced so many new things. Thank you for your continued support and flexibility. As we jump back to our 1st and 3rd blocks on Wednesday, know that we are excited to finish 2020 in the best way possible.
Please know that we plan to make a decision on 2nd semester structure prior to winter break, but the fluidity of the situation will also factor into the decision.

2020-2021 Yearbook
Please use the following link to upload any school candid photos:
*Please note: It allows for a nice variety of picture choices in your yearbook when used. This is a great way to get the most pictures possible for our book this school year and a good way to include our e-learning students too!
We encourage adding a tag to the photo uploads before uploading, so that pictures get categorized correctly in your yearbook. (Examples: Musical, 2nd block Algebra, lunch outside)
Structure of our first semester
Fall Musical
Solon Community Families, it is time for another musical! Due to the crazy time we are in right now, seating is limited to 200 patrons per show for the Fall Musical Production, The Secret Garden. This will allow the kiddos to still have a great performance weekend, but with a safe and distanced crowd. This Fall has been so fast, that it is now already time to purchase tickets! Shows are Thursday Nov. 5th @ 7:00pm, Saturday Nov. 7th @ 7:00pm, and Sunday Nov. 8th @ 2:00pm
Now that families have had time to secure tickets, we are opening up the remaining tickets to the community. Individuals that put in an order request together, will be seated together.
*TICKETS are available on a first come first serve basis, as soon as we reach 200 patrons, no other tickets will be available for that show.
----
Here is the process for securing your tickets for Secret Garden:
1. Send a reply to this google form. (This is your ticket request)
2. Once I have your request, I will assign seats and email you with your reserved tickets, where they will be at, and what your total owed is, by email.
3. You will bring cash or check (Made out to Solon Drama), on the dates listed in the email, or at the door, the night of the show.
4. Once we receive payment, you will get a digital copy of your tickets!
As always, if you have further questions, please email Sami at drama.solon@gmail.com

Social-Emotional Learning
For the past seven weeks I have been sharing information in seminars about Social-Emotional Learning. Social-Emotional Learning refers to how well students understand and regulate their emotions, build relationships and make good decisions. The lessons have focused on self-awareness of emotions, identifying triggers and understanding how to effectively manage emotions.
Student Stress/Anxiety
Speaking of emotions, when students experience either stressful situations or anxiety, their thoughts become muddled. They might be less clear in their thinking. My primary role is to assist students with their social/emotional development. And within that role, my number one job is to listen and help students manage stressful and anxious situations (i.e. see things more clearly). Parents, if you sense your student is a bit more stressed, I want you to know that I can help. You can reach me either by phone (624-3401 ext. 1117) or email (mithompson@solon.k12.ia.us).
