Barton Junior High School

October 2022
We are over half way through our first nine-weeks at Barton Jr. High and things have been GREAT! Students are learning how to follow The Wildkitten Way, which is our behavior matrix this year. Our students have learned the appropriate behavior in all settings of the school, and our teachers are helping ensure the behavior expectations are followed each day. I appreciate everyone's effort toward the implementation of this new behavior matrix so that we ensure Barton is safe in all areas of our campus.
We look forward to visiting with parents and caregivers at our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences, on Oct 11. Please make plans to schedule an appointment with the teachers so that you can get updates on your child. Immediately following our conferences, we will have our annual report to the public at 5:30 in the cafeteria. We would love to see you there as we share information about Barton.
Barton appreciates everything the parents and caregivers do for our students everyday. Our continued partnership works toward the best chance of success for our students! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
Meet some of the staff!
Mr. Knapper
Mr. Knapper is an 8th grade social studies teacher. His favorite thing about teaching at Barton is seeing the light turn on in students’ heads when they finally get it. He noted, “This year I am looking forward to helping my students have the opportunity to improve to do better.” He loves working at Barton. One question the students asked him was would he rather get to choose his students or continue to have them assigned to him. Mr. Knapper stated, “he likes them assigned because that makes it a surprise every year for who he gets to teach.” (Picture & caption by Lea Gaines & Shanira Hicks)
Mrs. Lyons
Mrs. Lyons is a counselor at BJHS. She came from Yocum Elementary to Barton because she has always wanted to work with Junior High students. She loves the atmosphere, and how friendly all the students and staff are. She does still miss the little kids from her old school. Her favorite sport is football and she recommends that everyone should read “Redeeming Love”. Her favorite quote is, "Just Breathe..." (Caption by Maryn Dunn & Jermya Candley)
Mrs. Cook
Mrs. Cook teaches career development and 7th grade geography. Her favorite way to spend time with her family is at a family dinner. She prefers savory foods over sweets. Graduating college was her most memorable moment. When she is not in her classroom she spends her time playing tennis and watching tv. A fun fact about Mrs. Cook has worked in the school district 13 years before she actually became a teacher. (Picture & Caption by Tyler Hall & Eva Cook)
