WEEKLY NEWS FOR NOVEMBER 6, 2020
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Thank you to all families who attended our Virtual Student Led Conferences last night. We know some of you are rescheduling, and it is well worth your time. We need to work together to stay connected more than ever before.
We are coming up on our last week of Trimester 1. Your students can still improve their grades at this time, so please encourage them to show you their Skyward Gradebook. We know getting back into the routines of school were even more challenging this year, so our teachers have provided many ways of improving grades to support our kids.
There will be changes to your child's specials schedule in Trimester 2, otherwise everything will stay the same, unless you have opted for a change in your child's learning placement (hybrid / eLearning). We will let your child know where to go if there is a change.
We will be doing an electronic viewing and signature for our report cards again this year in Skyward. We will share those directions out when report cards are ready to be viewed. Our MAPS Testing results will be mailed home soon.
Camera Usage:
During live classes, camera usage is required by all students. Teachers have been flexible with camera use, but many students are turning their cameras off and being unresponsive when called on. Not only are they losing learning, the class is slowed down tremendously because of this. Starting next week, Monday, Nov. 17, the following will be required for a student to be considered present to a live class:
- Students must have their cameras showing their full face (not the ceiling or forehead) and leave them on unless told otherwise.
- Students must be sitting up in their workspace with little distractions.
- Students need to engage appropriately throughout the entire class period.
In the event that a student expresses discomfort or an inability to use live video during eLearning, a parent can request approval from the office by emailing Mrs. Ross at aross@saltcreek48.org explaining the situation. Teachers will practice sensitivity and understanding in any situation warranting such a request.
PLACEMENT CHOICES FOR TRIMESTER 2 ARE DUE 11/9/20!
Regardless of us being in full remote learning currently, we still need to know if you want to change from hybrid to eLearning and vise versa for Trimester 2. We will keep your placement the same unless you contact the office to let us know of a change in preference by Monday, November 9th.
Your child's placement will remain the same for Trimester 2 and can be changed again for Trimester 3. We are not sure how long we will be in full remote learning, but we need to know of your placement changes now in order to prepare for our return to in person school.
Students will have the same hybrid or eLearning placement as before, and we will do our best not to move student sections. In fairness of transparency, if there are quite a few enrollment changes, there may be a need to change student sections. If this happens, we will let you know as soon as possible.
These changes will go into effect on Monday, November 16th and your child's new schedule, which will be emailed to you, will start this day. Even if we are still 100% remote, any schedule changes will occur for all on this date. Then, when we can have students back into our buildings, our hybrid students will come to school for their half day.
Again, you will keep the learning placement you had for the 1st trimester unless you contact the office by emailing kbeckwith@saltcreek48.org or calling 630.279.6160 to let us know of a placement change by Monday, November 9th.

INFO NEEDED FROM 8TH GRADE PARENTS
2020-21 Willowbrook Transition Information for 8th Grade Students
In the past, Willowbrook High School has worked with us to use various sources of information to place students in Freshman courses at WBHS. These items included the PSAT, 8th grade fall MAP data, teacher recommendation, GPA, and student/parent/guardian input. Given the current condition and limitations, the PSATs are not being administered.
Due to this change, Willowbrook Department Chairs and Administration met with our 8th Grade Teachers and Administration to identify alternatives for these assessments in both ELA and Math. Our teams are working together to identify resources that could be used for placement considerations at WBHS. The WBHS Administration will communicate in greater detail at a later time once everything is finalized, but this is a general overview of our work thus far.
What can your 8th grader do? The answer is simple. Just remind your child to do his/her best on all classroom assignments, as good work habits increase assessment scores and provide a great foundation for both 8th grade and high school success.
Registration information should be shared from Willowbrook soon.
