Field Flash
December 22, 2022
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We hope that you enjoyed our Holiday Sing this week. We are so proud of all our students! They did an excellent job sharing their songs with you all. Special thank you and congratulations to our music teachers, Mrs. Kapustka and Ms. Kwasny!
We hope you and your family enjoy a relaxing winter break. As a reminder, we are back in school on Monday, January 9th, and we look forward to seeing students for our first day of school in 2023!
Please take a moment to review this letter from our District Nurse. We have seen a number of students with cold and flu symptoms. As always, please keep students home if they have a fever. They need to be fever-free for 24 hours (without medication), and should have symptom improvement prior to returning to school. Thank you for working together to help keep everyone healthy and safe during this cold and flu season.
Now that the weather has changed, please be sure that they bring the appropriate winter weather gear (snow pants, boots, warm coats, etc), as we do go outside for recess most days. Please label items with your child's first and last name. in terms of winter weather, we are outside when the "feels like" temperature is 10 degrees or warmer. We look at air temperature and wind chill to determine the "feels like" temperature. We also ask children to wear all the layers their grown-ups sent them to school with that day.
A few reminders:
Please remember our drop-off areas on Elmore and Wisner are "kiss and go" in the morning. It is very important that you pull up, drop your child off, and drive away. If you'd like to wait and watch your child enter the building, please be sure you park away from these area. Your car shouldn't be present in these spots in the morning for more than a minute. Thank you for your help with this!
Recess is most often outdoors - please ensure your children are dressed for the weather.
Children should either bring their water bottle to lunch - or pack a separate drink for the lunchtime. Students are able to go to the water fountain during lunch too, but we do not have extra cups or water bottles for students.
- Please no dogs at drop off or pick up! Thank you!
Have a wonderful winter break!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman
Principal

The Field Green Team ~ tips for a Greener Holiday Season!
- Recycle your old holiday lights at the Public Works Service Center, 400 Busse Highway, now through March 1, from 7 AM to 3 PM.
- Niles & Park Ridge both provide Christmas tree curbside pickup. Park Ridge picks up the first week in January. Residents should place their trees on the parkway next to the curb the night before their regular garbage collection day.
- Only plain cards and wrapping paper can be recycled (no glitter, fluff, ribbon, 3-D decorations, or batteries in musical cards). Flatten paper and cardboard boxes so they fit inside your cart with the lid closed. Materials need to stay dry.
- Give the gift of composting. Park Ridge residents have a discounted plan with Collective Resource Compost.
- Check out this link for other ideas on how to give green gifts and reduce your holiday waste.
