We hope that you are enjoying summer. We are looking forward to welcoming our Little Pirates back to Kaplan Elementary School.

To start the school year off, we want to express our deep appreciation for your support and trust in our school community. It is your constant encouragement and involvement that makes us successful.

This year promises to be a journey of growth and countless opportunities for our students. Our dedicated team of passionate educators and staff is eager to embark on this adventure together with your children. We are committed to fostering an environment of learning.

Throughout the year, we will strive to maintain open lines of communication. Together, we can build a strong partnership that ensures the best possible educational experience for your child.

We would like to begin opening these lines of communication with some important dates and topics. Please read the newsletter carefully and don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns.

The office will reopen on July 27th. Office hours from July 27th - August 2nd will be 7:00-2:00. Office hours will adjust to regular school hours on August 3rd, 7:30-3:30. Please feel free to call if you have questions or need to take are of school business before the first day of school.

Spirit shirts purchased at the end of last school year will be handed out at Meet & Greet. An order form will go home within the first week of school for those that were not able to purchase last school year. We will not have spirit shirts for sale at Meet & Greet.

PreK & K testing is scheduled for August 10th, 11th and 14th. Your child's teacher will send a letter informing you of a testing time for your child on one of these days. These letters will be mailed out at the beginning of this week.

PreK & K Orientation will take place on August 10th at 5:30. This is a time for administration and teachers to share information with parents about KES. This is for parents only. No students or siblings should attend this meeting.

The first day of school for 1st-4th grade is August 10th. The first day for PreK and K girls is August 15th. The first day of school for PreK and K boys is August 16th. All PreK and K students will attend on the 17th. We look forward to seeing our Little Pirates!

Each child PreK - 4th grade will get a lanyard with a tag at Meet & Greet. These lanyards should be worn the first three days of school. Bus riders will also have a tag placed on their backpacks to help with the dismissal process.

We ask that you make every effort to bring school supplies for Meet and Greet. This gives teachers the opportunity to sort through supplies and be ready to teach on the first day of school. If you are not able to make it to Meet and Greet and have to send your child with supplies on the first day of school, please only send what your child can carry. It is okay if it takes more than one day for your child to bring all supplies. Students do wash their hands upon entering the school and collect a breakfast. This is difficult to do with a hand full of supplies. We greatly appreciate your help with this situation.

Students will be held accountable for being present at school. Please make every effort to get your child to school on time each day.

We highly encourage all students to bring a water bottle with water from home daily. Water fountains will be turned on and sanitized often throughout the day. We do have water bottle refill stations to refill water bottles. We will also limit the times when students can use the water fountains to ensure proper cleaning. Students bringing water bottles from home daily would greatly help in this matter!

School opens at 7:30. We will begin the car rider line at this time. Instruction begins promptly at 8:10. It is important that students be dropped off in a timely fashion to allow for breakfast before instructional times begins. We ask that if you are dropping your child off, you plan to arrive before 8:00. If you arrive after 8:10 with your child, you will have to come in with your child to sign them in and they will be tardy.

Dismissal will begin at 3:17 for buses. The car rider line will begin moving at 3:24.

If your child is a car rider, please use the car rider tag that was given at Meet and Greet. This should be attached to your visor in your car. We will be using student names for the car rider line this year. If you are picking up multiple students, you can write the names of other students on one of the tags to allow for fewer papers to have to attach to your visor.

Student handbooks will be available to view online. There is also a link below for your reference. There will be acknowledgement forms sent home on the first day of school. Please make every effort to sign all necessary forms and send them back with your child the next day. Emergency cards and demographic sheets will be completed at Meet and Greet. If you are not able to attend Meet and Greet these will be sent home on the first day of school with acknowledgement forms. These are very important. They ensure that we are able to contact someone if there is an emergency.

For a $1 donation, students can wear a t-shirt on Tuesday with their uniform bottom. The money collected from this fundraiser will be used to purchase technology for classrooms.

T-shirts with emblems and/or insignias that promote profanity, obscenity, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gang, wrestling related symbols, or hate type slogans, etc. are prohibited.

Students will be allowed to wear blue jean or athletic shorts/pants for $1 with spirit shirts or uniform shirts on Fridays. Jeans and/or athletic shorts must comply with school board policy. See student handbook for details. Spirit shirts must be from KES. It can be the spirit shirt from this year or past years.

Proceeds will help provide funds for instructional materials, operating expenses, motivational incentives for staff and students and other expenditures, which are not funded through other sources.
