A Note From Dr. Neubeck
As we are feeling the cold of winter months, I just want to do a quick reminder to our school community about Snow Days and E-Learning Days. On inclement weather days, we do our best to either make a decision the night before to give parents and staff time to plan or by 5:30 AM the day of the weather. The National Weather Service usually has webinars and updates leading up to these days and we are able to ask questions so we can be informed. Many people have input regarding these decisions including transportation, community education, leadership team, and other area superintendents. I want to personally thank Val Lindahl, our transportation manager, and John Wheelock who are out early in the morning and driving the roads. We are usually talking by 5:00AM since being able to get students to and from school safely plays a big part in the decision.
Our practice is that the first inclement day of each quarter (Quarter 2 and 3) will be a snow day. During snow days, students are not required to meet online with staff or do any new work at home . However, it is a great time to get caught up with school work if students need to. Subsequent days will be e-learning days in which students are required to do work and/or meet with their teachers online. Schedules can be found on our website. We will only have e-learning days two days in a row. If inclement weather keeps us out more than two days in a row, we will revert back to snow days. At times, we may just delay the start time by 2 hours or release 2 hours early if weather is coming.
For inclement days, you will be notified by email, phone call, and text as soon as we make the decision. We will also be posting information on our website and on the local TV stations. We hope that these methods will ensure that all families are notified. During these announcements, we will also notify families if Project Kids will be available. We do know there is a need for this service, even on snow days, so we try to keep Project Kids open as much as possible.
Many considerations need to be made when making these weather decisions, including the safety of our students and staff. Please be patient and flexible as I know these days can be tough to work around for many families and know these decisions are not made lightly. Let's hope for great weather!
Go Bears!
