Class Projects and Activities
Engineering
Biology
Mrs. Latshaw's Honors Biology I classes have worked on a project for the last couple of weeks. They have been studying macromolecules and how they are used in the body. The Research Question presented to students was
"How can we as scientists research, design, and create a nutritious bar to assist in addressing world hunger?"
Students were required to research a specific area of the globe and find:
- statistics for that specific area on poverty and food distribution
- local native foods grown or imported for that area
- health statistics related to disease, mortality, specific affected populations
In a bar form, students were required to
- create a recipe that contained the necessary FDA requirements for a single meal
- provide a realistic, approximate cost per bar
- create packaging for their bar
- provide a nutrition label
- present the final product
