SWE Guest Counselor
Mr. Kinniebrew, SWE counselor, will be off campus for several weeks. He is expected to return in March. While Mr. Kinniebrew is out, Mrs. Janet Lee will be our guest counselor.
Janet Lee is a certified school counselor currently serving our Summerwood family as a guest staff member. She has experience as an elementary campus counselor and as a district-wide counselor for students living in transitional housing situations and foster care placement in Humble ISD. Mrs. Lee cares deeply about developing a positive social and emotional footprint for every elementary student. She will be on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays to provide Guidance Lessons, Individual Counseling and Responsive Services support.
Mrs. Lee lives in Humble ISD with her husband Jeff. They have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren, ages 1 to 16. She enjoys sewing and crafting in her spare time and volunteering at her church as a women's study leader and a facilitator for GriefShare, a ministry focused on helping cope with the loss of a loved one. Her favorite word in this season of her life is HOPE because hope fosters community and community reminds us we are not alone, no matter what we face.
We are excited to have her at SWE supporting our students! Welcome, Mrs. Lee!

Message from PTO
Hello Summerwood Families!
My name is Emma Brawn and I'm the Junior Achievement coordinator for SWE. JA is a program where parent volunteers go into their child's class and teach five 30-45 minute lessons on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness. The kids really enjoy the hands-on lessons and this is one of the best ways to get into your child's class and get to know their teacher and peers. I am looking for volunteers for kindergarten, first and second grades.
I am looking for one volunteer per homeroom class. You will need to complete a short, online training, make sure you are registered as a volunteer with Humble ISD and then coordinate with the classroom teacher to find time to teach the lessons. Most of our volunteers will teach one lesson a week. JA supplies all the necessary materials, scripted lessons and online resources to be successful in the classroom, even if you have no teaching experience! I usually spend about 15 minute the night before reading through the lesson and sorting the materials needed. The classroom teachers will stay with you to help manage the class and provide support as needed.
Use the Signup Genius below to select your child's class and I will follow up with details on the training and deliver your supplies. Any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

Message from SWE PTO
Star Families,
Our next Pay to Play will be Friday February 2, 2024. Pay to Play days are fun themed days for students to dress up! The PTO needs your help for this day to run smoothly. Volunteers are needed to collect money and sell Bandanas. If you are available to help please us the link below to sign up.
Humble ISD requires all volunteers to complete a volunteer application before volunteering at any school events. If you haven't completed a district background check for the 2023-2024 school year, please be sure to fill out the district background check prior to your shift. Here is the link for your convenience.
Thanks,
Brianne Kahla
