Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run contacted me this week to see if I would put out the word seeking GOTR coaches. While it is not a Lothrop sponsored program, we support the program by helping to communicate with families and by providing space in our gym and outdoor campus. Here is the information below. There will need to be 3 coaches in order for the program to run.
Volunteer to be a Girls on the Run coach for Lothrop School this spring! The impact of a Girls on the Run volunteer coach is as boundless as it is beautiful. The Girls on the Run programming is an after school program that uses a research based curriculum to empower, increase self-worth and spark joy in its participants.
Our 10-week season begins the week of March 27. Our team will meet twice weekly for 90 minutes each session to connect, move, learn and have FUN! Not a runner? Haven’t coached before? No problem! Girls on the Run VT (GOTRVT) provides training, easy to follow lesson plans, supplies and support from GOTRVT for a transformational season.
Visit gotrvt.org/coach to learn more or sign up to volunteer. Questions? Contact GOTRVT at Info@girlsontherunvermont.org or 802-871-5664. Ready to register? Sign up here.
Primary Family Email and Phone Number Share
We have received a number of requests with help in connecting families for birthday parties and play dates. This spured an idea of creating a voluntary Family Email and Phone Number Share for families who wish to participate. The pandemic did not allow for our current primary learners to connect with others during important developmental years and we are hoping that making connections a bit easier might provide more opportunities as our learners grow.
The intent of this form is to collect family contact information on a VOLUNTARY basis to be shared with other families in your child's grade level for play date coordination, birthday parties etc. After February Break, I will share a list of contact information with the families who contribute information. I provided spaces for 2 family members, but you only need to include one. Here are the surveys:
4 Winds Institute-Science Exploration
We are extremely fortunate to have family and community volunteers that organize and lead science lessons from the 4 Winds Institute for our K-4 learners. Our 5/6 learners take turns supporting the lessons and they often star in puppet shows explaining science content. The PTO is a large financial contributor, allowing Lothrop to participate. This past week, Kinder, had a special 4 Winds lesson on squirrels with Mrs. Stickney! The Kinders loved learning about grey, red, and flying squirrels. We watched a puppet show put on by some middle school helpers and then students got to do interactive stations to examine squirrels up close. You will notice 5/6 learners helping to facilitate the stations. We look forward to our next exciting 4 Winds lesson in March!
Pants
The health office is very low on boys, elastic waist pants. Sizes 5-12 are needed. If you have some gently used pants, donations are appreciated.
The Great Kindness Challenge
The Great Kindness Challenge - School Edition is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible on campus. Over 18 million students in over 36 thousand schools, completed over 900 million acts of kindness in over 110 countries!
Lothrop School is proudly participating in The Great Kindness Challenge, a week-long program dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion in communities worldwide. This year Lothrop's Great Kindness Challenge is February 13-17, 2023.
To help our students practice kindness and put their compassion into action, they will receive a Great Kindness Challenge checklist and daily school wide act of kindness challenges.
Together, we will lift eachother up, cheer each other on and show the world that KINDNESS Matters!
Reminders
Mr. Matt went on to say: Pippa used colored pencils and a reference photo to create this piece. She used blending and shading to great effect here, and have the reindeer a warm personality with a glint in its eye. Note the fun detail of the plant stuck atop the right antler!”
