During this time, we will be educating ourselves on how to stand up and speak out regarding bullying. Students have begun processing what bullying feels like, sounds like, and looks like and some have even created art centered on this topic. Take a moment to view each student's work and process what the message is behind the art. We have some talented and caring students at WKMS. Our WarHawks make us proud!

We welcome more submissions of awesome work depicting anti-bullying to share with students throughout the month. All submissions can be sent to tshull@lexington1.net.

Do you want to get involved in LADS? The LADS club (Lose Alcohol Drugs and Tobacco) is open to all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students that strive to live a healthy and drug-free life. The club will be virtual for the time being. For more information on how to get involved, please email Ms. Bowen at jbowen@lexington1.net.

Short season and smaller crowds won't stop our girls on the court! They bring their all to every game and represent WKMS so well. These ladies are hard-working in class and on the court and we are proud of each and every one of them.

These ladies started off their season strong with a 4-1 start! They've got a tough finish to their season still facing off with Meadow Glen and Beechwood, but the girls are looking fierce and ready. Coach Webster and Coach Hash are confident the girls will attack each game looking for the win! Go War Hawks!

Football is off to a great start. We are happy to report that even during a pandemic, we have 49 kids and 6 student managers on the team this year. Our first game is 9/30 against Beechwood at Lexington HS. Check out our schedule below. Go Hawks!

Linda Boatright, RN and Sarah Hoover, HRA have been doing an amazing job taking care of our students and staff during this unprecedented time. So much goes on behind the scenes to keep us safe, and we appreciate all they do for us each and every day. Thank you Nurse Boatright and Ms. Hoover for being an ESSENTIAL role at WKMS and for doing so with such positivity and dedication. We are lucky to have you.

We have begun the school year on the right foot. Let's commit to continue to do all things listed below to keep us all safe.

• Wear a mask that covers your nose & mouth
• Wash your hands OFTEN (a minimum of 20 seconds each time)
• Hand sanitize as you enter and exit a room
• Remain 6 feet apart at ALL TIMES.
• Refrain from touching your face/mask.

DHEC will be offering a walk up flu clinic at Oak Grove Elementary school on Monday, October 5th from 3:00 to 6:00pm for the WKMS area. Mark your calendars and be on the lookout for more details coming soon, if this interests you.

Interested in being a member of Student Council this year? Things might look a little different, but there are still many opportunities to make a difference and become good leaders here at WKMS. We have officer positions and cabinet positions available. If this is something that intrigues you, please complete the Student Council form below. More information regarding the election process will be sent to those that complete it.

All members are required to have a C average and be able to attend meetings at 8:00am once every 3 weeks. LOOLA students are encouraged to be on Student Council as well!

One of the strategies that helps students be most successful is making goals and planning how to accomplish them. At WKMS, we believe in the power of goal-setting. Parents and guardians, we challenge you to take a couple of minutes to speak with your children about the goals you have set in your life and how it impacted you.

Check out these kiddos below setting goals and more in Ms. Hawkin's 6th grade classroom.

These 7th graders made atoms out of clay in Ms. Burroughs' class. Each student was provided their own clay to ensure we were following Covid safety precautions. What a creative way to learn about atoms and to make the unseen seen!

8th graders in Ms. Inabinette's ELA-LOOLA classes created Heart Maps to brainstorm topics that they might want to write about this school year. These students are off to a great start. Maybe we will see some of their writing in the near future!
