A Note from the Principal

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to enjoy my first Fun Run at CES. WOW! This was an amazing event and I greatly enjoyed meeting many of our parents, hula-hooping with our scholars, dancing and so much more. The smiles were priceless and well worth it! Thank you to our PTA for organizing a great event and thank you to many of you for your generous donations. Our approximate total raised from the Fun Run is $30,000. This is truly amazing and all of us at CES share a huge thank you!

Cell Phones/Smart Watches

We will soon be adding a section to our Family/Parent Handbook. Scholars are permitted to have Cell Phones/Smart Watches, however they MUST be powered off or on silent during the school day. Phones and watches must be stored in the student's locker. These devices can be a distraction to instruction and our academic program. FitBits are permitted to be worn as long as they are not connected to cell service. Thank you for your support.

Costumes

Our Fall Parties are always a fun time for our scholars. Students are permitted and invited to wear their costumes on their designated party day (see Mark your Calendar section). Costumes cannot be distracting to the learning environment nor scary. Accessories to the costumes are not permitted. We do request that the costumes not interfere with participation in recess and PE.

Urbana High Mini-Thon

Urbana High School Mini-THON will be holding the first annual community Hawk Harvest fall festival on Saturday, October 26th from 5-8 PM at the UHS Stadium. This event will be a community event with activities for children and students of all ages. Some of the activities include a haunted trail, costume competition, carnival games, moon bounces, face painting, trunk or treating, etc.

Admission is $5 per child and parents can enter for free. Food and beverage options will be available for purchase at the event.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conference Information

Dates/Times:

October 23rd (4:00pm-8:00pm), October 24th (4:00pm-8:00pm), and October 25th (1:00pm-4:00pm)

Reminders:

You will sign up for conferences online.
The deadline for signing up is Monday, October 21.
Only one 15 minute conference block may be reserved per child.
Once you click the link below and enter your information a confirmation will be sent to your email.
Use the confirmation email link to choose a conference time and date.
5th grade parents will sign up for a conference with the home room teacher only.
If you have any issues signing up please email both Kaleb Crawford (kaleb.crawford@fcps.org) and Brian Kilduff (brian.kilduff@fcps.org)
Mr. Crawford and Mr. Kilduff will email you back within 24 hours regarding any issues or changes to be made.

PTA Movie Night

Join us on Friday, November 1 for the first Movie Night of the year. The movie feature is "The Croods." This PTA sponsored event is free with concessions and pizza for sale. This event is NOT a drop off event. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please use the Parks and Recs door for entry to this event.

Young Authors Contest

Students in grades 1-5 are invited to participate in a Young Author's Contest. The deadline for all entries is November 15. We look forward to many of our scholars participating in this contest!
