Take Home Tuesday
News from St. Cecilia Grade School for April 19, 2022
Welcome Back!
Today we start the final countdown to summer break. And with weather like this, it can be challenging to think about those summer months. Including today, we have only 28 school days remaining (19 for the 8th graders). This final month is filled with a lot of celebrations: First Holy Communion, Graduation, Clap Out for 8th Graders, BBQ/BOE/Art Fair/Book Fair, Songfest, Staycation, Move Up Day, Field Day.
These last weeks are when we could use support from home with expectations. Below this note are a few items you can use for conversations at home:
1. Behavioral Expectations Matrix: These are the behavior expectations we have for all students here at St. Cecilia. Things we could really use some help with are using level zero voice in the hallways (no talking), not talking back to teachers, and turning in work on time. These are our biggest challenges right now.
2. Family Handbook: Special notes for the following items:
- Pages 26 & 27 highlight the items not allowed here at school. The biggest challenge we have are Apple Watches or those like it. We have had some students indicate their parents are texting them during the school day. Please do not send your child to school with watches so you can text them. This could result in disciplinary measures for your child. They are always welcome to use the school phones to call home.
- Pages 34-36 highlight the technology acceptable use policy for students. We have been experiencing an increase of outside school texting and social media usage that is impacting the instructional environment. Please review our school policy on disciplinary measures that could result from such behaviors. I would also highly recommend checking on your children's group texts, social media sites, etc. to be sure your expectations are being followed.
- Pages 37-40 highlight the uniform policy. Please check your child's skirt/skort length, shirts are being tucked in, and sweaters are available for Mass days.
Your help in these areas would be much appreciated. These areas have slipped the past two years because we were all more focused on COVID protocols. As we removed the masks and loosened up our protocols, we have noticed more handbook violations (dress code, technology disrespectful behaviors). This isn't just a St. Cecilia challenge either. I had a meeting at the chancery last week and every principal there reported these same challenges (high schools too)! Please find some time this week to discuss at home and help enforce these expectations before dropping off each morning.
Blessings,
Julia

COVID Updates
We have one classroom still being masked due to a COVID+ student being present at school. They have one more day of full masking before they move back to optional. This includes all recesses, soccer practices, and games.
Some parents have asked about next year and there have been no decisions made at this time regarding masking for next year. We'll take each day as they come for the time being. Thanks for being patient.
