Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Mr Clamp has nominated the following this week:
Year 9 student Trevors who consistently demonstrates an outstanding attitude during PE lessons, always showing an enthusiasm and ability to motivate his peers. In particular, Trevors has shown a natural aptitude for leadership and, on numerous occasions, has shown initiative to help his peers with a skill. Alson nominated is Ryan W who has asked excellent questions to further develop his understanding of the rules and regulations in Handball, as well as seeking further information on the passing techniques in Handball.
Year 10 student Rares who demonstrates consistency in the various shots in Volleyball. Rares also demonstrated positive sporting values, by modifying his service shots in order to increase the likelihood of the opposition team returning the ball, therefore, allowing them to practice their dig shots. Also nominated is Gurkirat for her consistent enthusiasm for PE, encouraging her peers in every PE lesson and always engaging in PE with a smile on her face. During Monday's lesson, Gurkirat also volunteered to help teach peers with the dig shot, once more showing a natural ability to lead.
Year 11 - Sports Science Dylan C, Mr Clamp is thrilled with Dylan's recent attitude in Sports Science and the quality of his work in Nutrition. The level of detail, and the quality of the information has been absolutely fantastic. Once more, Dylan has continued to ask questions and for further guidance in order to ensure he is producing work to the best of his ability. An outstanding start to Year 11 in Sports Science, well done Dylan!
Mr Fitzpatrick has nominated Year 7 students Leon and Anotidaishe for fantastic effort and progress in gymnastics this week, they have developed fantastic sequences that include counter balance and counter tension balances with great body management, whilst providing fluent ways of linking their balances together.
Year 8 students Kacper K and Harry G who showed fantastic effort and attitude in their fitness lesson this week, completing all task to the best of their abilities. Both students could identify and describe the importance of cardiovascular fitness in sport and recognise the sports that benefit from it.
Mr Arundell-Reid would like to nominate Year 7 student Dusan for his amazing leadership in Gymnastics, orchestrating a Gymnastics Routine with his group being able to link multiple forms of balances into one routine with excellent form. His effort and attitude to learning is always faultless. Also nominated is Year 8 student Ksawery who demonstrated high level rugby skills scoring 6 tries in a single lesson. He was able to demonstrate great communication skills and leadership by captaining his team to victory. Helping his peers understand their positions and being a vocal member of the team.
Mrs Horwood has nominated the following this week:
Year 7 students De’Yarna who always works exceptionally hard during lessons to achieve the skill and teaching points set. De’Yarna is a great young leader who is able to support her peers when needed and provide feedback when required.
Year 8 student Cora who has demonstrated excellent talent in Netball this year and showed great leadership on court. She has continued this into her OAA lessons where she has been able to demonstrate problem solving techniques.
Year 9 students Marley who is a dedicated sports person and not only excels and in lesson time but also commits to extra curricular sport. Marley has represented the school at several netball matches as well as attending training regularly. In lesson time Marley always works hard to achieve her best and is an excellent role model to her peers. Also nominated is Leon who always approaches lessons with a high effort ethos even on activities that he has found more difficult. He is able to use his skills from other sports when taking part in handball to be successful within a game.
Finally, Year 10 student Nicole K who has had an exceptional start to her Sports Science course. She works meticulously in lessons to complete all of the work set and this has been reflected in the work she has produced in her coursework. She is always receptive to feedback and implements and adjusts work accordingly.
Mrs Brook has nominated Year 7 students Rhiannan for excellent effort in PE, she is always showing a consistent positive attitude and does everything to her full potential and Karis-Lily who displays fantastic sportsmanship towards other students in her class, helping others with knowledge and showing good leadership. Also nominated is Year 10 student Mason for good participation in volleyball, he worked well with his team and Year 11 students Ryan and Dominik who showed excellent sportsmanship with helping others in their team in handball and showed good leadership skills. There dedication and commitment to the game was fantastic.
Mr Robinson has nominated Year 8 students Caedan for hard work. In the lesson on Monday he showed resilience and determination to complete the fitness circuit and Adam who demonstrated fantastic leadership skills when working with a partner, he encouraged and motivated his partner to work hard during a lesson.
Curriculum Focus:
Year 7 – Mi tiempo libre
This term in Spanish, Year 7 students are learning about free time and hobbies. They are learning how to describe what they like doing in their spare time, the sports they practise and will start talking about the weather in the context of weather dependent free time activities. This will be achieved via a wide range of verbs, and they will begin giving opinions too. Students will begin to understand grammatical concepts in the language, using specific verbs for specific actions and using techniques like identification of cognates for reading comprehension success.
The cultural link this term will focus on the traditions of Christmas and the Epiphany in Spanish speaking countries.
Year 8 – Todo sobre mi vida
Currently Year 8 students are learning through the topic of ‘Everything about my life’ . They will learn to give and understand information about how they use their mobile phones, give opinions about different types of music they like and say why, give information about their favourite singer, talk about T.V. programmes and say what they did yesterday.
Year 9 – Oriéntate
In Year 9 this term, students are learning to produce and understand information about types of jobs, work duties and their hopes for the future. Emphasis is also put on the importance of languages for future careers.
Year 10 - Theme 1 – Identity and Culture - Intereses e Influencias
Pearson Edexcel GCSE Spanish is divided into 5 Themes. Theme 1 is a large theme which covers Identity and Culture. Year 10 are currently looking at the topic of Interests and Influences, which includes what they usually do in their free time, sport, films and TV programmes, different types of live entertainment and what is trending at the moment. They will also learn how to discuss what makes a good and bad role model, whether celebrities make good role models, and who their role model is and why. This will be done alongside the use of various tenses taken from the past, present and future.
Year 11 - Theme 3 – School – Mi vida en el insti
Pearson Edexcel GCSE Spanish is divided into 5 Themes. Year 11 students have already covered Themes 1, 2, and 5, and are currently studying Theme 3 this term, which is the topic of School. They can now describe their uniform with a range of adjectives and express the pros and cons of school uniform. They are able to give positive and negative opinions about school subjects and teachers. They will be discussing their school day, school facilities, and be able to compare their school now to their primary school, describe a future school trip and give details of extracurricular activities. This will be done alongside the use of various tenses taken from the past, present and future.
