DECEMBER 2021 NEWSLETTER
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I cannot believe that it is already December. While December is often a relatively short month at school, it is also one of the best! This month always seems to be filled with a great sense of joy, love and togetherness! Personally, I love decorating for the holidays and having the opportunity to spend time surrounded by those I love most. I hope this month brings you all hope, joy and happiness!
All of Lakeview continues to be busy teaching, learning and growing. We do our best to ensure that each day is filled with plenty of opportunities for rigorous learning and collaboration. Every minute with our students is focused on teaching, learning and building connections. It is important to us that we continue to provide quality instruction even during the days leading up to winter break (which will be here before we know it). We all know how precious and often limited time is in education, so each moment is spent focused on the opportunities to keep moving our students forward!
Thank you for your continued support!
Take care,
Ms. Tabor

PARTIES, TREATS & LUNCH VISITORS
The School District's Nutrition Department is a great resource for ordering treats that meet the wellness policies. If you are interested in ordering items through the District's Nutrition Department, you may contact Becky West at bwest@solon.k12.ia.us and she would be happy to help!
Lastly, in order to continue the spacing in the lunchrooms, we will not be allowing lunch visitors again this school year. This will help us maintain some social distancing and lower numbers in the lunchrooms while students eat. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.
FRIENDLY OFFICE REMINDERS
- Please remind your child to check the lost and found for any of their items they may have misplaced. Items will be removed on December 1st.
- Please drive slow in the parking lot and drop off/pick up areas and be mindful of students who may be crossing.
- As we approach the colder months, please help remind your child(ren) to bring their jacket to school. Unless there is inclement weather, recess will be outside. It is important that students come to school with the proper outdoor accessories.
- The cold weather can bring changes to some of our student's normal dismissal routines. Please be sure to email your child's classroom teacher and the office (blighty@solon.k12.ia.us & acannon@solon.k12.ia.us) by noon with any changes to their dismissal plan. This will help us ensure a smooth dismissal and that each student gets to where they are supposed to at the end of the day.
BASP LATE STARTS/CLOSURES REMINDER
- School closings due to inclement winter weather. The BASP program will be CLOSED on days when the SCSD closes or dismisses school early due to inclement weather.
- BASP closing due to inclement winter weather. The program will CLOSE on in-service or vacation days due to inclement weather. The program director will notify local television and radio stations.
- Unscheduled school delays (LATE STARTS) due to inclement weather. The program will be open 2 hours late as well as school. On 2 hour late starts the program will open at 8:15 AM and will remain open until school begins. Breakfast is not offered on late start mornings. If school is later canceled for the entire day due to the inclement weather, the program will remain open until 10:30 AM to allow parents time to pick up their children.
