COUNSELING CORNER
VHS Counselor's Update
Welcome to the start of the 2021-22 school year! The Counselors are excited for the year to begin and to serve our Viper families.
The beginning of the school year brings new student enrollments and master schedule needs, making it one of the busiest times of the year for counselors. We understand there are questions regarding students' schedules. We hope to answer most of them with our friendly email auto responses and information in the following paragraphs:
Upon our return from summer break, the Counselors will be correcting schedule errors such as, missing class periods, missing required academic courses, having duplicate courses, and balancing class sizes.
On July 29th, at our Open House, a Change of Course Request form will be made available for students needing to request a change to their schedule. All requests are reviewed and considered except for teacher, lunch and classes with friends. Submission of the form does not mean that an automatic change will take place. Students will receive notification of the decision by email. The deadline to submit the form will be Friday, August 6th at 3:30 pm. Counselors have until the 5th day of school to complete course changes.
Students are welcome to email their counselor with any questions; we will do our best to reply within 48 hours beginning July 26th. For most, your counselor is assigned based on the wing your Advisory meets in:
A-wing Counselor - Mrs. Schepker, vschepker@aguafria.org
B-wing Counselor - Mrs. Faccinto-Cappuccilli, kfaccinto@aguafria.org
C-wing Counselor - Mrs. Buensuceso, mbuensuceso@aguafria.org
D-wing Counselor - Mr. Pratt, spratt@aguafria.org
E-wing Counselor - Mrs. Hink, shink@aguafria.org
Wishing you all a great finish to your summer break and a wonderful start to your school year!
MASK POLICY
Thank you for your patience during the 2020/2021 school year related to the pandemic. The health and safety of students, staff, and community will continue to be at the forefront of our decisions, along with open, transparent, and timely communication. In response to recent data and guidance from health officials, Agua Fria Union High School District (Agua Fria UHSD) is updating its mask mandate.
Effective July 1, masks will be optional for students, staff, and visitors at all Agua Fria UHSD schools and facilities.
In support of individuals who elect to wear a face covering, schools will continue to provide masks to students, staff, and visitors who request one.
The District will continue to monitor guidance from health officials to determine if our COVID-19 mitigation strategies need to be modified.
Clear and concise protocols related to Covid-19 will be shared in late July, one week prior to school starting.
ATTENDANCE AND TARDY POLICY
Regular student attendance is necessary to provide the greatest opportunity for student academic success. However, if you need to call in an absence for your student, please contact 623-932-7400 Extension 1 and leave your student’s name, ID number, date, and the reason for the absence and it will be processed as soon as possible. Students who are late to any class during the day may be marked tardy. Please refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and review the district policy regarding attendance and tardiness.
DRESS CODE
Student dress, personal appearance, and conduct must be such that it will not disrupt the instructional environment of the school. Student dress and grooming shall be such that they meet reasonable safety, health, and decency standards and will not diminish the disciplinary control of the teacher or administrators. You can find a list of unacceptable clothing and appearance in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook on our school website. Please review prior to back to school shopping. Students in violation will be asked to change, parents may be called to bring appropriate clothing or students may be given appropriate apparel to wear for the remainder of the school day.
PARENTVUE
STUDENT SCHEDULES AND COURSE FEES
Student schedules will be available on ParentVue and StudentVue beginning on July 29th after 3pm
Freshman students and transfer students new to Verrado will pick up their schedules in person at OPEN HOUSE on July 29th.

Parking passes cost $50 per year and a student needs to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a copy of their proof of auto insurance at the time of purchase in order to be eligible for a parking pass. Students will also need to complete the form linked here.
Parking Passes are available for purchase in the VHS Bookstore beginning on Monday, Aug. 2 at 9am. Students will need to have a parking pass purchased by August 13.

STUDENT TECHNOLOGY
We are a 1:1 campus. All students will be issued a Chromebook to use throughout the duration of the school year. The Chromebook is to be used by your student for the sole purpose of accessing educationally appropriate materials, information, programs, and websites. The District will retain full ownership of all Chromebook, equipment, and software. Please review information regarding the technology program and student rights via the link below.
Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook
Families have the opportunity to purchase a Device Protection Plan through the district. It is recommended that parents purchase the Device Protection Plan to minimize any costs that may arise during the school year. Families who choose not to purchase the Device Protection Plan are 100% responsible for all repair and replacement costs. Details of the plan and how to purchase it are available online at www.aguafria.org/dpp. Payment for the Device Protection Plan must be made by Friday, September 10th to be active for the 2021-2022 school year.

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS
For the 21/22 SY all enrolled students will receive one (1) reimbursable breakfast and one (1) reimbursable lunch, at no cost, each school day. Students are not required to submit a F&R application for the daily free meals.
Even though students will receive their meals at no cost, it is still vital for parents to complete and submit a F&R Application. Students who qualify for Free or Reduced Meal Benefits are eligible to receive P-EBT funds, reduced registration fees for ACT/SAT tests, reduced registration for Athletic Fees, discount rates for college application fees, eligible for discounted rates on internet services, etc. Families must complete a new application and receive approval to continue their benefits for the 21-22 SY.
If you have any questions regarding food service and meal programs please contact Barbara Duncan bduncan@aguafria.org
TRANSPORTATION
For bus information this year and for years to come we will be utilizing a smart phone application. It is called "Edulog Parent Portal" and can be found on the Google Play Store for Android devices or the Apple Store for Iphone Devices. The app will allow parents to track their students' bus in real time as well as allow us to send out push notifications for anything that happens with the bus (Bus running late due to mechanical issues, traffic, road construction, etc.). All you need to register for the app is a valid email address and your students 5 digit Student ID number. For users new to the app this year or returning from the 2020-2021 year you will need to go into the app and use the new ride registration function to make sure your student will be on the list for transportation. We are REQUIRING all students to be registered on the parent portal app this year in order to receive transportation. We are using the parent portal registrations as a way to easily track how many students plan on using our buses. If you run into any complications in the registration process or do not have access to the internet or if you do not have a smart phone, please feel free to contact the Districts Route Coordinator, Avery Sponsler, in the Transportation department by Phone: 623-932-7023 or Email: Asponsler@aguafria.org
PLEASE REGISTER BY 07/26/2021*** EVEN IF YOU PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS AGAIN SO WE HAVE A CLEAR PICTURE OF STUDENTS RETURNING ON THE BUSES. We will send a push notification to all registered riders as soon as routes are complete with route information.
***Follow this link which is also available to view on the parent hub via the District website: For first time users https://youtu.be/cZAph55ybok and for users needing to use the ride registration feature https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNb-I477cek
