Things to consider while working with pressure relieve valve
Your heating system distributes hot water to your home. As the water is heated and cooled by the boiler, the water comes under pressure and increases. Hot water heating systems include a variety of safety devices to keep your home safe, limit heating system pressure. The first and most important device on your boiler is a pressure relief or safety valve created by pressure relief valve manufacturers. The standard operating pressure of a home boiler system is 12 psi. If for some reason the pressure of the boiler increases beyond the safe operating pressure, the valve will open.
This over-pressure condition is likely due to a failed expansion tank. When the boiler does not allow sufficient thermal expansion of water in the system, the pressure of the system increases beyond the pressure relief valve point. Due to this condition leakage of the pressure relief valve is usually cyclic as the boiler temperature is heated and cooled. There are two possible reasons for this situation with the safety relief valve manufacturers. One common reason is that the cooling pressure of the boiler water system exceeds the set point of the expansion tank, which is typically designed with a 12psi set point. However, when the feed valve for the boiler system exceeds this set point int, the expansion tank bladder is compressed before the boiler is operational.
